I can go all day without seeing a black person (outside of my family) but I'm unable to say the same about a white person. White is a minority now population wise, yet who is on tv the most? (up until the last election) who is running our country? You can name 10 famous white people in a matter of minutes, but can you say the same of black?
So on some days, the only person I see that looks like me is my reflection.
I can understand a black person's want to see "their people" around. Though, I can't help but feel discriminated against for the continual quest for "your people." I would like to think that, my friend, you would consider me one of "your people" despite the lack of color in my skin, the thickness of my nose, or the wave of my hair.
The majority of my friends are white. It's difficult to describe the way it feels to realize that I lack a true "culture". While you are a good friend of mine, I do not consider you to be like "my people". I hold friendships far closer then I would any relationship with someone based only on the color of their skin (while nice to be around, it's not very conductive).
So yes, I am being a tad discriminatory, but only because I have been raised in a culture that had done nothing but the same (then folds worst mind you) to me.
Thus Missy, you are my friend, not my people. Something you should be happy for, because I got to pick you :p My people I didn't not.
