The Silver Chain: Chapter 8
Tonks’ Discovery
Remus, Kingsley and Arthur all laughed uproariously as Harry regaled them with tales of newly married life. It was their weekly outing at the Leaky Cauldron, and over the past few weeks, Harry had been joining them. Ron usually stopped by for one drink, but was quick to make his exit. Hermione was apparently better company than a bunch of old men. Harry’s wife worked several evenings a week which left him free to enjoy a few drinks with the boys. Arthur commiserated when Harry spoke of cold feet of the literal variety. Remus smiled and nodded with Kingsley, though he’d had his own experiences with the icicles that Ginny passed off as toes.
“Just have Dobby give her a pair of socks for Christmas, Harry, and tell her he’d be gravely offended if she didn’t wear them,” suggested Remus.
“Y’know, Remus, that idea ain’t half bad,” said Arthur, grinning. “Well, gentlemen, it’s been fun, but I’d best be on my way. Molly’s toes seem to be just that much colder when I stay out too late!”
Everyone said their good-byes, and Arthur stood up and Apparated home. Harry let out a relieved groan. “It’s stupid, I know,” he said, “but I keep censoring everything I say. I know he knows I have sex… but I don’t want to think about him and Mrs. Weasley, er, getting it on, you know?”
Remus snorted his beer and Kingsley guffawed. “The man’s got seven children, Harry,” laughed Kingsley. “It stands to reason that he and the missus are well versed in, er, getting it on.”
Remus chuckled as Harry’s face turned a brilliant shade of crimson. Harry shook his head and looked up at Remus admiringly. “I don’t know how you do it, mate. How can you shag the man’s daughter and turn around and talk sex with him? I can’t even mention being intimate with my wife, and she’s no relation!”
Remus’ heart skipped a beat but his mouth kept moving. “Well, I suppose it helps that I’ve known the man for longer than you’ve been alive… and I’m operating under the assumption that he doesn’t know that I’m shagging his daughter.”
Kingsley spluttered, “What’s this?”
“Shit,” muttered Harry. “Sorry, Remus, I wasn’t really thinking about what I was saying.”
So Harry knew. He’d have to ask Ginny later if she knew how that had come about. He shrugged. “No worries. I won’t lie about it. It’s just something that’s easier left unsaid.”
Kingsley eyed him appraisingly. “I’ll say.”
“Well, just forget I mentioned, eh?” asked Harry hopefully.
“Well, since you’re certainly old enough to know better, I won’t tell you to be careful,” began Kingsley. “But Remus, man, you’ll be in quite a mess if her brothers find out.”
“Don’t I know it,” groaned Remus.
The three men drank silently for a moment before Harry said, “So, what’s she like in the sack?”
Kingsley snorted and Remus gave a feral grin. “More than you could handle, Harry, more than you could handle.”

Slightly intoxicated, Remus walked slowly up the path to his cottage. Kingsley had left shortly after Harry’s grand revelation, and it had just been the two of them. Harry had always presented something of a conundrum to Remus. On one hand, he was so much like James that Remus felt as though his friend was there with him. On the other hand, Harry was his own person; he shouldn’t be required to fill his father’s place. Sirius had desperately wanted his best friend back and had revelled in his role as Harry’s confidant. Remus had kept his distance from the boy, uncertain of his exact place in Harry’s life.
Tonight though, tonight they’d been friends. Harry was Ginny’s age, and he knew her and the Weasley’s very well. He was also still enough like James that Remus had felt safe confiding in him. Harry had listened to Remus’ predicament without judging him and even offered his congratulations on finding a ‘great girl’. Remus had spent many a similar evening with James and Sirius and Peter. He was coming to the conclusion that he couldn’t be like a father to Harry, and he wasn’t his godfather, but he’d very much enjoy being his friend. Why it had taken him so many years and an affair with a girl young enough to easily be his daughter, Remus couldn’t say, but the thought of finding his place in Harry’s life made him feel better. Not that he’d ever forget his fellow Marauders, but just now he missed them a little less.
When Remus stepped into the cottage he sniffed the air. He could smell the scent of her; she was waiting for him in the bedroom. She’d been working very hard on a project at work, so he hadn’t bothered her for a couple of weeks. Apparently she’d missed him as she had abandoned her submissive waiting and had come after him instead.

Ginny lay sprawled out naked on Remus’ bed, waiting for him to come home. She knew he was out with her father and others from the office, but she’d hoped he would be home sooner rather than later. Her anticipation grew into frustration as she imagined all the things she wanted to do with him, if only he were sober enough. The longer he stayed away, the more intoxicated he was likely to be. The image of him staggering in drunk brought back memories of their first time together.
Images of that drunken evening flooded her brain and she slipped her finger into the cleft between her legs. It thrilled her to touch those places that he’d staked his claim on that night. She stroked herself into a frenzy as she filled her mind with the remembered sensations of losing her virginity and every last scrap of her innocence to Remus Lupin.
Ginny moaned loudly as her orgasm hit her. She felt the slick walls of her passage spasm against her fingers and she wondered, fleetingly, what it must feel like for him to buried deep inside her when she came. “Oh Remus,” she sighed. “I want you in me right now.”
“I think I can accommodate that request,” rumbled a hoarse voice from the doorway. Ginny felt her skin flush. She’d been so consumed in her fantasy that she had not heard him arrive and he hadn’t disturbed her, opting instead to watch.
“Remus!” she gasped in surprise. He had his hand inside his trousers and was stroking himself.
“I’ve never seen anything like that, Ginny,” he murmured. “I couldn’t help myself, you were beautiful.”
He got on the bed and knelt between her legs. “Do you still want me inside you? Or do you want to watch?” he asked.
Ginny’s eyes widened. The thought of watching him disturbed her. She wanted to, and at the same time wasn’t certain she could. She was still mortified that he’d seen her touching herself. “Inside me,” she whispered. It seemed her embarrassment had done more to heighten her desire than to dampen it. He’d already charmed away his clothes, and the tip of his erection gleamed with droplets of semen.
She lay back and raised up her knees, allowing him complete access. She let out a sigh as he pushed ever so slowly into her. He held her as though she might break and he kept his thrusts gentle and even. He murmured loving words in her ear and laid soft kisses along her jawline and down the column of her neck. His hands rubbed lightly up and down her arms in the same steady rhythm his hips rocked against hers. She gave low keening cries as he pleasured her. It seemed to go on for an eternity before she felt her body begin to shudder. He slipped his hand between their bodies and rubbed gently at her clitoris. Ecstasy rushed through her, spreading outward from that point of contact and she felt wave after wave of it roll through her body.
“You are amazing, Ginny,” he whispered against her neck, his voice husky, as he lost himself in her depths.

Remus opened his door with not a little trepidation. He didn’t get many visitors, especially not at seven in the morning. He wasn’t certain whether or not he ought to be relieved when he discovered Tonks waiting on the other side. She pushed past him, letting herself in, and Remus cringed. This could be very bad.
“I know you’re surprised to see me here, especially this early, but I wanted to catch you when I knew you’d be alone.”
“Alone, Tonks? You’re engaged to Charlie.”
“It’s not like that, you idiot!” she exclaimed, pushing at him. “I’ve just been worried about you. I hate the way you keep yourself holed up here in the woods. I know I couldn’t ever get through to you as your girlfriend, but I thought maybe just as your friend, I might have a shot. You need to date, Remus. You need to get out of this rut you’re in! I know you were never one to play the field, but there hasn’t been anyone since we broke up!”
“You’re worried about my love-life?” he asked, his voice a bit strangled.
“Remus?” called a voice from the bedroom. “Who’re you talking to?”
Tonks’ brows shot up and Remus let his face drop into his palm and began to laugh. Ginny emerged from the bedroom in one of his shirts. Both women gasped in identical surprise at seeing the other.
“Ginny,” he said, his voice riddled with amusement, “Tonks was just stopping by to check up on my love life.”
“Oh, well… here I am,” deadpanned Ginny.
“Um, oh my, I’m… oh dear,” stuttered Tonks. Just then the sound of a whistling kettle came from the kitchen area.
“Tea, Tonks?” asked Ginny politely.
“That would be lovely,” replied Tonks in a high pitched voice.
Remus had collapsed against the settee and was laughing hysterically. Both women shot him a look of disgust and headed to the kitchen.
“I, um, well, I was concerned. He’s been so solitary lately, since Charlie and I announced our engagement. I was worried that he…”
“It’s okay, Tonks. Really it is. Remus and I have been sort of together for a while; since before that evening, actually. We just haven’t really made our relationship public for, well, a variety of reasons.”
“Do your parents know about this, Ginny,” asked Tonks with an uncharacteristically serious look.
Ginny sighed, “No they don’t.”
Tonks nodded slowly. “Don’t you think they’d want to know? I mean they love you, don’t you think they’d be upset to find out that you had a serious relationship going on right under their noses?”
Ginny shrugged, that particular question had no easy answer. “Well, it’s mostly been a casual relationship; a case of what my parents don’t know, can’t hurt them.”
Tonks looked from Ginny who was sitting in front of her to Remus who was leaning on the counter. “Perhaps I’m off the mark as I’m only just seeing you two together for the first time, but it looks to me as though you’ve left “casual fling” in the dust.”

Remus owled Harry an invitation to lunch, and the two of them sat on the patio at Fortescue’s in Diagon Alley.
“I don’t know what to make of it, Harry. Ginny and I have never talked much beyond the moment we were in. Until Tonks came barging in this morning, I hadn’t so much as had an inkling that future might be possible with Ginny, much less considered it.”
“Well, Remus, it’s really not all that complicated. Do you love her?”
“Of course I love her Harry, who wouldn’t? She’s an incredibly beautiful woman! Intelligent, caring…” Remus trailed off.
“You’re right, Remus,” said Harry. “She’s all of those things, and I do love her a great deal. I even dated her once in school.” He chuckled as Remus’ eyes took on a dangerous glint. Harry held up his hand. “Let me finish. Ginny is as wonderful as you say and very dear to me, but I’m not in love with her. She’s a friend.”
“Her brothers would never accept us; her parents would never forgive me!”
Harry shrugged. “Ron already knows. He doesn’t like it, but he’s dealing with it.”
“Yeah? How did you all find out anyway?”
“Several moons back, you sent a message to Ginny to come to you. Hermione and I were sitting with her at the kitchen table in The Burrow when it arrived. Hermione told Ron about it later. Anyway, he’s been pretty good about the whole thing. Hasn’t said a word to you, has he?”
“No,” sighed Remus, “he hasn’t. Hasn’t changed towards me at all, I would never have guessed that he knew.”
“Well, and Tonks will tell Charlie. You two could’ve kept a fling secret, but Tonks is right, this isn’t a fling. Two people who’ve been spending every moment they can together over the course of a year are not having causal sex. They’re having a serious relationship. And, if that isn’t enough to convince you, she’s seen you as a wolf. How many women have tended to you the morning after a full moon?”
“Other than my mother? Only Ginny.” Remus rubbed his hands against his face. “How can Ron not say anything? I’d be furious in his shoes.”
Harry shrugged. “Neither of you has confided in him, have you? All he has is a story from Hermione about how you and Ginny are seeing each other and she tends to you after the full moon. It’s a bit much for him to digest, I suspect and he’s probably not exactly certain what he should say to you. It was hard for Hermione as well. Ginny used to confide in her.”
“I never told her to keep it a secret, it was her idea to pretend it never happened. I guess I shouldn’t have gone along with that. I just don’t really know how all of this happened…” he trailed off and Harry nodded sagely.
“This definitely isn’t a fling, Remus. It’s not just sex. It’s probably about time you both admitted that to yourselves.”
“And where does that leave me, Harry?” he asked wearily. “I was just a dirty old man, dallying in secret with a much younger witch. Now I’m the worst sort of cad, sleeping with the daughter of one of my dearest friends right under his nose and soon everyone will know about it except him.”
“So tell him before someone else does,” advised Harry.
“And what shall I say to him?” inquired Remus. “Hi Arthur, would you mind sitting down for a minute? Yeah, I wasn’t certain if you’d heard any rumours, but if you have, they’re true. Yes, sir, I’ve been shagging your daughter senseless every chance I get for the past several months. It’s been almost a year now, actually. She’s quite a little fireball in bed, you know; can’t get enough?”
Harry chuckled. “Well, yes, I can see that it would be difficult, but you’re going to have to come clean sooner or later.”
