Needlecraft, cats and books

I finally finished the cover for my netbook, and took it up to the bedroom to do a photo for my Ravelry records. As it was a sunny day the cats were in situ, and, for once, Ross did not scarper at the thought of a D.O.G. being around. So he got into the picture.

They do! Books about cats are even better (I have a special fondness for the Tovey, though it did put me off the idea of owning Siamese cats for years!)

That cover is very nice.

Not familiar with that E. Nesbitt or that Beverly Nicholls, but I shall have to look for them. Thanks.

The Nichols is the first part of a trilogy, and has apparently been republished recently with a complete guide to the plants mentioned (many of which have changed name over the last half century.)

There is some Nesbit available as podcast - the stories are designed to be read aloud, which is how I first heard them.

I too have not heard of the Nichols books and thus will have to check them out. Books and cats are like fish and chips to me.

Nichols' gardening and cat books are delightful - and his three childrens books (The Tree That Sat Down' etc) are also easily available. His contemporary novels, including the detective ones, are less read these days, being riddled with 1930s 'Mitfordesque' attitudes which can shock the modern reader (it was Nichols who taught me the importance of setting a book in its time.)
