Rise of the Cybermen

Tonight’s Doctor Who unspoilery reaction: Well that was pretty good, wasn't it? Good solid episode, no real quibbles. *thumbs up* I know I don’t sound particularly full of squee, but I’m not feeling very able to write with enthusiasm today. *struggles to communicate love* I’d say this is second favourite episode this season. I did enjoy the plot ( Read more... )

How could you think such a thing? A sci-fi fan like me? We know Borg cyborgs.

I was surprisingly pleased by Mickey half naked. Rrow!

I totally didn't notice they were oxygen masks! That's brilliant, hee.

And agreed on the President; he was really quite ace!

My family are frequent fliers, and when that happened we all launched into the air stewardess' safety speech!

VERY good episode and yeah - Tennant in a tux - mmmmm... but then agaii]n Tennant in anything! And he was still wearing his Converses! The "Delete" bit made me think of daleks too - creepy! And the in the jungle music - hilarious! It's that perfect kinda obscure comedy that I love!

Great episode. And I too had a little squee moment at the reappearance of the converses. Bizarrely though, the only time I can find Tennant attractive is when he is out of character in the Confidentials. Perhaps I am just programmed not to fancy the Doctor. :S

Is that you, Ish? It is, isn't it. I think I had a blank out moment on your username yesterday, I thought I was talking to someone from the Doctor Who livejournal community. *facepalm*

When I heard that the Torchwood Institute had published a paper, I assumed it was a Fabian Society deal; a think-tank, essentially, advising the great and good but not available to us lowly mortals. Of course, we know that organizations like the Fabian Society and the Heritage Society exist, which rather punctures Torchwood's air of secrecy. Then again, we don't know much about them. These think-tanks are hidden in plain sight, which is sometimes the most effective way.

I think the biggest hurdle, if that theory's correct, is how to make an entire spin-off about a think-tank. It doesn't exactly scream "High-octane action-adventure!"

The episode was partly inspired by Spare Parts; the author of that audio, Marc Platt, got a special thanks in the end credits. I remember a Doctor Who Magazine article predicting that Platt would be the first old-series writer to work for the new series. Almost correct!

Interestingly, the audio story Jubilee, which inspired last year's 'Dalek', was set in an alternate-universe England. Not one ( ... )

Heh, yes. Maybe we'll just have to chalk it up to alternate earth strangeness. I mean, if Rose can be a dog in this AU, Torchwood can be a think tank instead of a secret alien-fighting institute. Maybe.
