CANON POINT: The end of 206 Plan B after Jenna stabs herself with a knife.
WHY THIS CHARACTER AND CANON POINT?: Why Elena? The Vampire Diaries cast in Taxon is absolutely awesome as people to tag - they're so very well in character and friendly OOC which makes me want to join the cast. I think that Elena could do quite a lot in the city, between getting to know the other living there and figuring out everything with those that she knows. Elena's gone through so much in canon and it would be nice to see how she can sort through that away from everything (mostly) along with being kidnapped by aliens to live in an underground city. Elena's a strong person with a calm and cool head who manages to live and deal with impossible situations.
I chose this canon point as a big bundle of emotional trauma just crashed down on Elena - first she broke up with Stefan and then Katherine compelled her aunt Jenna to hurt herself. Add to that her best friend was turned into a vampire and her doppelgänger is wreaking havoc upon her town - Elena needs a little downtime and an opportunity to sort things out and this seems like the perfect place for that.
PROGRAMMED POSSESSION: The necklace/locket that Stefan gave her - it contains vervain which protects Elena from being compelled by vampires.
ABILITIES/WEAKNESSES: Abilities: Aside from being Katherine's doppelgänger, Elena is a perfectly normal teenage girl. She's a smart girl, although history - especially the history of Mystic Falls - isn't her strong suit. She's able to keep her head in a crisis and is capable of manipulating people to get what she wants.
Weaknesses: Although Elena is a calm person she is an emotional person when it comes to the people that she loves. After her parents died it took a long time for her to be able to move past those feelings and remind herself that everything would still be okay, that she's still alive and has people around her that love her. When someone that Elena loves is in danger it causes her great worry. Although she's calm and level headed Elena can lose her cool and become irrational. Elena's love for her friends, family and Stefan is her biggest weakness - she frequently puts her life in danger to try and keep them safe or to rescue them from danger (e.g. when she rescued Stefan from Pearl's house or going into the well to find the moonstone).
PSYCHOLOGY/PERSONALITY: Elena's a very calm individual, sometimes making her seem a little reserved. After the death of her parents Elena withdrew, spending her days writing in her journal as she tried to deal and move on from the death of her parents. Although her brother didn't think that her sitting in the cemetery with her journal was a good way of moving on, after she confront him about his delinquency, writing down what she felt was helpful to Elena; it helped remind her of the good things as well as the bad, and reminded her that she would be okay. She uses the strength of others to help her, drawing on comfort from her friends and family - seeing them happy and okay helped Elena through the pain of her parents death and seeing them remain happy and safe helps her despite the dangers that are in Mystic Falls; as long as nothing happens Elena can reassure herself that things will be okay, even as dire and desperate as times may seem.
Elena is a romantic at heart. She loves romance, especially the romantic ideas of the past. When the Miss Mystic Falls pageant started, although Elena found parts of it a little ridiculous she enjoyed the meaning behind it. Elena enjoyed the romance behind the dance - the no contact rules meant that the dance focussed on the romance between the dancers - flirting with their eyes especially. When Stefan wanted to build his strength by slowly ingesting human blood Elena offered her own blood to Stefan, a sign of both her love and trust for him. Earlier in the year when Stefan had drank Elena's blood and was unable to control his thirst for it, Elena trusted that Stefan wouldn't kill her and placed herself in danger in front of him, trying to help him realise that dying wouldn't help him - that she loved him too dearly for that.
For her age Elena is very mature individual - since Stefan and Damon moved to town a lot has happened both to her and in Mystic Falls; it started with a string of 'animal' attacks, leading to Elena later finding that she was the doppelgänger of Katherine Pierce (Katerina Petrova) and adopted - her real parents being Isobel Flemming and John Gilbert, making her a descendent of Katherine but also a relative of the Gilbert's. Despite everything that has happened - the building deaths and dangers in her life Elena has remained strong, her calm and level personality allowing her to see past all that and remain collected; where someone else may have fallen or retreated Elena maturely manages everything, trying to help where she can without getting in too deep or acting out about it. Elena's maturity helped greatly when her aunt Jenna became her and Jeremy's legal guardian. Jenna, a fun loving woman who was clueless over parenting, found Elena's maturity to be a comfort - it meant she didn't have to look after her quite so much and could focus more on Jeremy, but also that Elena's words were comforting, allowing them to bond and talk naturally.
Elena is also both selfless and kind. This, along with her calm personality can make her both reliable but also reckless. If someone that is close to Elena is in danger or has been threatened by someone that is dangerous Elena will risk her own life to keep them safe. Fortunately for Elena there is always someone that cares about her to protect her and stop both herself and the person being threatened from coming to harm. It shouldn't be said that Elena has little regard for her own life - Elena doesn't wish to die, and by that extent doesn't wish to become a vampire, but she doesn't want to see anyone else be hurt either and if she brought the damage on or it is being done to get to her then she would rather have the consequences placed on herself rather than onto anyone else. Elena also has a very strong moral compass, one that she doesn't blur the lines between - or at least won't without a very good reason for doing so. Elena knows in her eyes what is good and bad, what is right and wrong and crossing those lines will cause her trust in you to be lost, something that takes a very long time to be built back - if at all it can be. Elena's moral compass can also make her appear rather judgemental, particularly when she lacks trust in a person or a situation.

"Jenna?" She could hear Katherine vaguely as she ran to her aunt, hands holding onto her face as Alaric steadied her against the counter.
“Jenna, no, come on.” All she could think about was Katherine, her parents, everyone that had died over the past year. At first she’d blamed the vampire presence but this was because of her… her and Katherine. She wanted to know why - why Katherine wouldn’t just come after her instead. She was sick of all of it.
Elena could feel a hand on her shoulder, a voice telling her that everything would be alright, that they were on their way but she barely heard it… barely felt it. She didn’t want to die but if it meant stopping all of this? Stopping everyone she cared about from being in constant danger? She had to do something.
She closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath. It was impossible… she couldn’t see any good outcomes from it. How could they beat Katherine and have no one else die? And what about aunt Jenna, what were they going to tell her… would she even live? God, Elena hoped so.
It was a few minutes before she moved again, finally letting out the breath in a sigh. Opening her eyes Elena looked to Jenna, panic rushing over her when she didn’t see her. Something in the back of her mind wanted to tell her that the paramedics were already here, that she was on her way to the hospital but she didn’t believe that… couldn’t. She turned her head, looking for Alaric or Jeremy by she was faced with wall… solid stone wall that was impossible.
“What?” She stared at it for a moment, slowly reaching out and pressing her hands on it.
It was real. But… how? How could she be here?
“Katherine?” Unless somehow she’d been drugged and this was hours later she hadn’t moved, that and she didn’t have any gaps in her memory. Scrambling to her neck Elena panicked again when she realised that the necklace was gone. Had Katherine compelled her and made her forget she'd been there? But... why? Just to lock her in the tomb?
Her mind was racing, trying to think of any other ideas but… there weren’t any. Elena couldn’t think of how she’d gotten here; the why was a little easier but could she even be certain of that?
“Oh God.” She leaned against the wall, fearful and a little defeated. She was stuck down her - she hadn’t seen any doors when she’d looked around - and she had no way of contacting Stefan; her phone had been in her bag. She was stuck here for God knows how long and God knows where. And what was worse was that she didn’t know if Jenna would live or not.
She wanted to cry, to scream out until all of her pain was gone… except that she knew that wasn’t an option. There was too much and she couldn’t let that happen - she couldn’t let herself become defeated before she’d even tried.
“Come on Elena, pull it together.” She was muttering more than talking, not quite trusting herself to fully talk, not sure if she could listen to herself. “Katherine’s obviously not here or she’d have done something by now, that means someone else has done this.” She’d managed to get to that but without anything more she was stuck.
“I really wish you were here, Stefan, broken up or not.” At least around him she felt safe - knew that he would keep her safe; even Damon seemed like a good option at this point - he cared enough to save her.
“I know you’ll get me out of here…” You always do, was her unfinished sentence.
Elena sighed again, closing her eyes and pushing her head back against the wall. This time she really felt doomed.
ADDITIONAL SAMPLE: “Skydiving?” Stefan sounded insane. For one it was completely out of the blue and for two… she wasn’t quite so keen on having the only thing keeping her from dying being a harness and a parachute. She’d seen stories, read things - people died from this, granted it wasn’t often but…
“No, you’re insane.” The problem wasn’t the height, at least not completely but… she wasn’t exactly that much of an exhilaration girl - she didn’t need to ‘feel the rush’ to feel alive; being alive and being with him was enough for that. Things had managed to quieten down lately and it looked like it was going right… for now, at least. She didn’t want to think it but there was something in the back of Elena’s mind that was telling her that she shouldn’t relax - at least not fully.
Elena had to laugh a little when Stefan tried to convince her again, give a shake of her head. “I don’t think so.” He tried again but she was firm in her answer; she might have wanted to do something normal and fun but not quite to that extent.
“Come on.” Elena took his arm, giving a light nudge to try and pull his attention more onto her and less onto the skydiving. “How about we go to the Grill and you can remind me how much better you are at pool?”
Elena was glad when he agreed; giving him a smile at him and slipping her arm through his fully, leaning into him. She laid her head onto his arm for a moment, relaxing in the simple comfort of him just being there, in the fact that everything was right for once. This just felt a little normal; something that she’d been wishing for ever since finding out that he was a vampire - even before then. A normal moment between them where she could be a normal girl in love; no vampires, nothing supernatural; just a girl and a guy in love, playing pool and having fun. It made her sigh in happiness.
