Notes: From here on out, there will be some liberties taken with police and medical procedures. Don't read further if that's going to bother you. Full Author's Notes are in Part 1.
I really must get a Hopkins icon! But I did like your mention of Victor and Molly taking flowers to his grave.
I really really like your portrayal of Hopkins and the way Sherlock reacts to him. The fact that he needs Sherlock's assistance so badly and is so happy when he agrees to help, and the way that Sherlock finds he doesn't mind.
And the whole aging thing and Greg's illness, and Sherlock not being able to see another friend suffer - it must have brought back so many Victor memories.
I do hope Sherlock and Stanley go to visit John and Greg.
I'm just loving this story more and more! :-D I think the thing I love about it the most is that Sherlock is so human. He's finally having to accept that he's aging and he has to make allowances for his body. It was interesting to see him have to give into the need for food because of low blood sugar, not to mention the persistent ache in his hand. I found it amusing that both Molly and John could see through him in terms of the arthritis and his growing attraction to Hopkins. Oh, and it's very touching that Sherlock doesn't want to see Lestrade because it hurts to be reminded that his friend is no longer in his prime and could be struck down by illness or disease.
Other than the phone call, I think my favourite moment in this installment is when Sherlock admits why he's reluctant to get involved in the case. The dialogue is just perfect:
“Hopkins,” he said finally, pulling Hopkins’ attention back to him, “please don’t misunderstand me when I say this, as I am... grateful that you still find my skills to be of some use. But I don’

Wow, thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear that the fic is still appealing to you.
Writing an aging Sherlock whilst trying to keep him in-character has been a bit of a challenge, so I'm glad it works for you. He's still stubborn and acerbic, but he's also finding that he needs to make concessions. It was fun to write.
I'm so happy you liked the phone call, and Sherlock's reasons for being reluctant to take on the case. Thank you for saying so.

And do we ever hear about the Duck Incident?

It's also good to know you like the portrayal of Hopkins so far, as well as Sherlock's struggle with aging and dealing with Lestrade's illness.
(Don't worry, Sherlock and Hopkins will eventually see John & Lestrade) :)
The Duck Incident doesn't appear in this fic, but maybe that will be a side story one of these days.
Thank you for reading and commenting!
