So while brainstorming up my AU background, it came to my attention that if I'm going to insert an AU version of Char's long and colorful history into this setting, he's been a prominent soldier for going on two decades, and he's probably made some enemies, allies, and acquaintances outside of the bloody trail of former superior officers he's left behind him.
Basically, taking thoughts and volunteers from among the other "veterans" about who Char fought against or with in his past. Here's the general outline for his backstory altered to fit this setting, for reference:
Edit: Looking at the fluff again, prior to the rest of this timeline, Zeon was most likely a loyal Riftguard kingdom with a highly independent attitude led by the Deikun family (Char's actual ancestors). They revert back to their ancient pre-meteor practice of "fuck the po-lice" when the Zabi clan takes over, and then become a proper Riftguard again under Char. End edit
About 15 years ago: Fought under the name "Char Aznable" under the Zabi Clan when they were ruling Zeon in the form of extremely numerous viking-style raiders and attempting to conquer the Empire and the rest of the continent. Eventually betrayed the leadership and murdered all but one of the surviving Zabi heirs before going into hiding. Would have fought against any continental powers that opposed takeover by crazy pirates.
About 7-8 years ago: Under an assumed name, "Quattro Bajeena" fought as a mercenary against both the Kingdom of Zeon (now more like a military dictatorship in disarray after the war in the first part, with a general standing as regent for the surviving Zabi) and the Emperor's Right Hand Kingdom who were attempting to pacify the area with extreme prejudice. Particularly concerned with this part - Void, you're running the present Emperor's Right Hand, does this sound feasible?
Eventually, after a lot of fighting, Char went to the Imperial Court with a deal; he had a legitimate claim to Zeon's throne. If the Emperor supported his bid to become king of the islands, he would force Zeon to make peace with the Empire and reform its military into a powerful naval Riftguard. The Emperor agreed, Char deposed Zeon's leadership (possibly with some help from some middle school dropouts, who knows), and he's now King Char of Zeon, making good on his promise to turn the kingdom into a force for controlling the ocean side of the Rift. For now.
Anyway, just wanted to dump that out there to see if a) there were any mod objections before I start actually writing the app and b) anyone had any thoughts on how they and Char might have run into each other in the past. Feel free to replace anyone from his canon if you know it, including the Zabi family even though I mentioned them specifically by name. Canon-fusion is the best part of AUs.
