I'm really glad you enjoyed this. Thank you for letting me know! Akthar and Mrs Lintott are both thoroughly awesome; it makes me happy to share the love.

This... yes. I love the meta-ness of it. Unspoken histories, untranslatable experiences. Yes.

(Strangely for het, I almost wish this had been less fade-to-black. Not sure why).

Anyway. Loved it.

Oh, dude, what an awesome response. Thank you.

(I get what you mean. Or, at least, I have the same reaction, though maybe not for the same reason. The last History Boys thing I wrote, I put in the sex almost angrily, raging against the lack of positive sexual contact between queer characters in the play. Here, Mrs Lintott -- far more desexualised in the play ("Durham was good for history, it's where I had my first pizza. Other things, too, of course, but it's the pizza that stands out.") -- deserves the same anger on her behalf, but instead just gets a fade-to-black that, if you don't have the context of my typical writing, looks like an endorsement of the idea that she's too old and past-it to have real sex.)

Um. But also, thank you! This time I won't accuse of you of accidentally being opportunemoment. :)

I think I love you a little. For this fic, and also for this comment, but it weirdly amazes me that a pairing my best friend and I started as a double-dare-you has been taken on seriously and done so bloody well by a ton of talented writers always makes me happy. I think one of the great things about this fandom is that every character is complicated, adn every pairing can be made interesting, and I think this is definitely one of the most well-thought-out ones from this pairing I've read.

Well, okay, not the same anger. But the same passion, maybe. Yeah, that's a better way of putting it.

Oh, I like how sharp this is. It reads as a meta comment (to me, on the marginality of Mrs Lintott and Akthar in the play/movie), and as an exact, fascinating fleshing-out of the characters themselves and, amazingly, as a believable pairing fic. Not a particularly joyous pairing, of course, but believable and prickly and fascinating. I'll be thinking about this later.

Your Totty-voice is perfect. I'm sure I liked this for other reasons as well, but not ones I can pinpoint so well as your mastery of Mrs Lintott's point of view.

Wow, thank you for both your comments -- I'm really glad you thought I did this pairing justice, because it's been a secret favourite of mine for years now. :)
