Geophagia has a somewhat fascinating history. There's apparently a tradition is some very rural, very poor areas of the southeast US wherein some types of clay are a delicacy- especially the stuff found along river beds. This makes sense to me, because the clay along the side of a waterway would seem to have a higher potential for having some nutritional value. Also, there is some very pretty clay around Georgia, that aside from staining everything it touches looks like it might taste good. I don't have links handy, but it's well googleabel.
One of my 'interests' on my user pages is pica pica, which is part of a (probably misheard) lyric from Swamp by The Talking Heads: 'pica pica - risky business'. I have always wondered what exactly they meant by it- compulsive eating of compulsions? An insatiable hunger for twelve-point type? I lie awake at nights wondering.
Right, so I checked their site, and the lyric is, in fact, 'pika pika - risky business'. I'm not sure that knowing that makes me feel any better, as pikas are cute furry little bunny-rat things. It could also be that the band is prescient, and foresaw the coming of Pikachu way back in 1983. That's almost believable.
Either way, I don't think that I'm going to sleep any better.

I will never be able to erase the involuntary visuals from my brain, though, and for that... damn you!!!
