Sunday Fun-day! I'm determined to get the house clean today. But it's time for a break...

Reply here and I'll give you 3 subjects I don't think you know or care much about. Then you talk about those subjects in your journal. It's interesting to see who knows what about what?

I think the YouTube of now definitely has more "YouTube famous" people than before since the platform has changed significantly, so it is technically of the younger generation since they kind of grow up on that kind of online entertainment, but I got into YouTubers back during the early days of the site (before the whole "famous" aspect was a thing, especially in terms of monetization and such, it was just people filming in their bedrooms talking/doing skits/whatever and that was entertaining enough). Jenna Marbles was one of the first OG YouTubers that I remember getting into, she's been kind of someone I've followed for a long, long time and that I'm pleasantly surprised is still going strong to this day.

Because the platform has changed so has the content, the creators, and the people who are there, but it can appeal to a wide range of people with the amount of content there is. I definitely watch quite a few people regularly, even subscribe to channels that I like and want to support. I mostly like supporting smaller channels.

I think it's cool that there's a platform that exists where people can make their own content and still get it distributed. I just haven't spent a lot of time finding anything/anyone that I like to watch - with the exception of fanvid makers. I definitely watch a lot of fanvids!

Ah, okay. It's funny how things like slenderman make it into the mainstream somehow, even though I have no idea how any of that started or the history of internet urban legends.

Mainstream books often have such weird, 2-D female characters :/ I guess I could say that about a lot television/movies, too. Lately I've been reading way more fanfic than regular fiction, and it's probably the first time in my life where I can say that.

Yeah, I mean, webseries and things like that exist on YouTube and some popular kinds of content that gets created that turns people, who did this for fun, into a full-fledged career and even boosting their career that can take them outside of that platform. I know some people like to mock the YouTuber culture (for valid reasons at times, though it's unfortunate that it's all lumped together creating a bad rep) but there are legitimately amazing people who create fantastic things. You can find anything you want to there, find your own little niche community, and it's great. There's honestly nothing else like it among the online community.

How do memes get started? Where do they originate? Oftentimes we don't know. It's the same with Internet urban legends. It's just something that was passed through many places, people link ( ... )

Yeah, it used to bother me that I didn't know where memes came from. One time I googled info about a vine all day, couldn't find any origin story, and realized it probably shouldn't matter anyway haha :P
