I'm not sure how Dean could have let Sam walk away like that...it seems a lot of things about him changed. Now he doesn't even hurry up when Sam is in danger...

I just hope this separation is for the best and that they will come back together soon stronger than ever.

I'm actually fond of the last scene, because to me it's a continuation of a long forgotten pattern with Dean. From the very beginning, with Sam leaving for Stanford, it's always been about Sam leaving Dean and Dean fighting to keep him. Whether that's getting him back on the road to find their dad, saving him from hell, using fucked up ultimatums like "if you walk out that door, don't you ever come back!" But this time? Even if it was Sam who suggested it, Dean didn't fight and that shocked Sam and the audience because Dean fights, and I think it's showing progress that Dean is growing from that self destructive behavior and maybe instead of being spoiled where Dean is concerned, Sam can learn not to take his brother for granted and they'll be much better for it in the end.

VERY VALID POINT.

Even if it was Sam who suggested it, Dean didn't fight and that shocked Sam and the audience because Dean fights,
That is totally why it shocked me, you are right!

showing progress that Dean is growing from that self destructive behavior and maybe instead of being spoiled where Dean is concerned, Sam can learn not to take his brother for granted and they'll be much better for it in the end.
That is a very logical conclusion, actually. Now they can literally grow up by being apart and be that much stronger when they come back together.

I tip my hat to you, m'dear!
