The hardest call (locked to immortalmacleod and voiceofthewoods)

It took Connor a good hour and three glasses of Scotch before he felt calm enough to call Duncan. He wasn't sure if his kinsman had even received the news of the boys' deaths yet, let alone the funeral arrangements, and it was Connor's duty to give him the information ( Read more... )

Duncan was in a pub when his cellphone rang. He rubbed at his eyes, slowly pulling it out of his pocket and was about to turn it off when he saw the caller I.D.

Connor.

He flipped it open and pressed it to his ear. "Connor? Is that you?" He shut his eyes. Connor would only be calling for good news or bad news. "You heard about Aidan, didn't you?"

His fist clenched at his side and then he laughed ruefully. "No. No, actually, my email isn't working. I had a slight..." Oh, how could he put it? "A computer malfunction." He swiped a napkin from the bar and grabbed a pen from the bartender. "Give me the info; I'll just write it down. I know -- I should just pay the money and get a damn Blackberry." He sighed and tried to think of what to tell Connor.

"I haven't had any leads so far." A pause as he lowered his voice. "I killed an Immortal last night, but didn't find out anything new."

Connor relayed the information he'd gotten in April's email to Duncan over the phone.

"I'm certain many of us are trying to track down leads." He was a little disturbed at the disclosure that Duncan had killed an immortal over Aidan's death. "Cassandra and I will be at New Zealand within a week and can be in the air soon after. Perhaps we could have a private ceremony in Scotland to honor the lads."

"Whoever it was, we will find them Duncan. They can't hide forever, and when they make a mistake we will find them. Then we end this, for good."

Cass had been going to remain up on deck while Connor called Duncan but knew it was pointless. While the scotch might have helped Connor calm a little she was worried that speaking to Duncan might end up with the two of them in a killing rage again. So she came down and sat in the small navigation area near him, hand giving his knee a gentle squeeze as she sat down.
