half assed Ao no Exorcist pimp post (and other things I'm having a bunch of feelings about lately)

Okay, so I have new fandoms kind of. And I mean fandoms to the level of "I want to read and write fic about these series" fandoms. Which I usually never have multiples of at the same time. But man, I am super enthusiastic about these ones ( Read more... )

Ao no Exorcist I've never heard of and now I ran across it like 3 times in the last 2 days...maybe it's a sign? It sounds like it's up my alley...

...oh wait, this is the series that I got the bag from the Jump shop from! (it must have been premiering last spring when I was in Japan!) The char designs looked appealing then...since it's a shounen my bro would probably like it, too, maybe I'll check it out post-holidays (and once I've gotten all this stupid kids' cartooning out of my system whyyyyyy can I not write fic in fandoms I actually want to be part of ;_;)

I'm trying to remember why I got into it. There's a gal I've known for a while who's starting to get into various anime series and was talking about it on Tumblr a while back and I finally decided to give it a watch and, man, I really love it a lot. More people need to get into it and now's a pretty good time since it's on hiatus this month. (although it was awful for me because I started reading at the end of November and things are in the middle of a huge battle right now. So it left me in a bit of an "I need more right NOW" state and I have to wait until January)

Unfortunately Atlus RPGs are insanely hard so it's hard to say how long this will keep my attention for.

This.

I also have vague memories of renting the first Shin Megami Tensei and giving up in despair because of the first-person perspective for so much of the game.

Then you have the fact that so many Atlus RPGs are getting released for handhelds (which I have issues with thanks to my neck) and yeah.

You mean Nocturne? Or one of the older SMT games on the PS1 (which I think might just be the first two Persona games and man I would kind of kill to play through the incredibly trashy original translation of Persona 1. Because I heard they tried super hard to Americanize it and it was bad XD) Cause I remember being so super excited for Nocturne when it came out because I heard Dante from Devil May Cry was in there as a sort of hidden character. I never found him though, because man those games are stupid hard. Although it's been so long since I played it I can't remember what perspective it used. Persona at least is all standard third-person running around.

And yea, it's extra hard to get into them on a handheld. I have one of the old launch PSPs. So not only does it have the super-short battery life, it's heavier than the newer ones too. I think I managed ten hours of Persona 3 (with various breaks to recharge the system) before I finally stopped for good.

It had to be one of the older SMT games for PS1, probably the first one? All I remember is the confusing first-person perspective and the game being intensely confusing and super hard.

It really, really is. I have an embarassing number of RPGs for the DS that I have yet to finish. (I have just one RPG for the PSP, Crisis Core and I haven't really even gotten it started.) One of my wishes for the Wii U is that Nintendo makes it possible to play DS games with it, a la the Gameboy adapter for the Gamecube.

That's kind of funny because Persona games (at least 3/4) are supposedly the easiest SMT/Atlus games around. I think the worst parts of it are the SP costs, a couple of choice bossfights and the cheap kills with Light/Dark spells.

I think the reason why Yosuke/Kanji hardly exists is because Yosuke is kind of a douche that makes homophoic comments. He could be just in hardcore denial tho.

Yea, I keep thinking about playing Nocturne again and being terrified by the thought because that game was ridiculous. Four, I've so far had the most trouble with Kanj's Shadow. I'm just past that and trying to do the bonus boss fight and I don't know why. Three the only reason I stopped playing is because my PSP died and I got distracted by other things instead of charging it. I always wind up cursing myself for not playing Persona on easy mode though. I don't have the patience for grinding I used to.

If Yosuke's occasional shrieking of "I'm not gay" in the most obnoxious way possible (in between all those times he says something that makes him come off as super, super gay because everyone in this game comes off as super gay) is a reasoning, then why does he get slashed with the main character up, down, and sideways? I just figure he's in crazy denial, and there's probably other pairings involving them that people like better. Still makes me wish more existed.

Because the main character gets paired up with everyone by default. No exceptions even if you can't date him lol

Main character is always a super pimp who gets more tail than he can handle. I think there is now a part of me waiting for Atlus to go the Bioware "everyone is bi" route so you can date whoever you please... but then, Bioware are a lot lazier on the writing front than Atlus. XD
