Summary/Excerpt: The part of him that believed that there was nothing beyond his ability to grasp insisted he find a way.
He didn’t wake, exactly, but rose into a light sleep. He could choose to fall back down, or open his eyes and really wake. In the precious few moments before he would have no choice but to be awake, he let a part of himself leave, checking to ensure everyone under his roof was where they belonged. All was well. He’d almost slipped back into dreams when a thought came to mind and forced his eyes open. He had more to watch over than what was in his immediate vicinity.
However.
How he could check on someone whose reiatsu just…wasn’t…there? The part of him that objected at being up at five in the morning said there wasn’t a way, and so he should close his eyes and fall back into sleep. The part of him that believed that there was nothing beyond his ability to grasp insisted he find a way.
Early morning light began to filter into the room as he turned over the problem in his mind.
He knew where she should be, and that was a start. He found his landmark easily enough…Zaraki Kenpachi was barely able to contain himself when awake. It was no less difficult to find Madarame, once he’d turned Zaraki’s reiatsu into so much background noise. He picked out several other pressure points…and then centered on the void in the midst of them.
It was a large blank, a silence in the cacophony that was 11th Division. He concentrated on the complete lack of reiatsu until he had a hold of the reiraku trailing from it. He now knew her spirit thread, would be able to pick it out from others in the future.
He wondered if he should try the impossible and actually sense Kusajishi Yachiru, but the rising and the movements of the reiatsu around her was making concentration increasingly difficult. There were some early risers in 11th. Surprising.
He reluctantly let her spirit thread go, and came back into himself. He had found her safe and sound, and that was enough for the moment.
