Summary/Excerpt: “We can share my blanket, but we can’t share yours, right?”
“Here.” He put it into her hands, a beautiful, soft, round bun, only a small piece broken off. She smiled and admired the way it filled her hands. She looked over to see what he had, only to find nothing.
“Ken-chan, where’s yours?”
“There wasn’t anything for me. Eat.”
The little girl looked at the bun for a moment, then held it out to him. “You have some too.”
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
He snorted. “It’s the right size for you, not me. I can’t eat that.”
“But…we can break it…”
“We can share my blanket, but we can’t share yours, right?”
“Right.”
“Why?”
“Because Ken-chan’s too big for my blanket!”
“Right. Clothes work that way, and so does food. That’s your size, not mine.”
Yachiru stared at the bun, trying to work out the logic in her head. It didn’t seem quite right. Still, she was very small, and many things didn’t make sense to her. The only thing she did know was that the man beside her was strong, and that he was hers.
