Title: Snow
Pairing: Kurogane/Fay (Characters by CLAMP)
Warnings: A bit of nudity.
Notes: A little piece of Kurogane and Fay's life when the adventure is over. (And this ignores Omake 6.)

The rain was falling fast. It had cooled things off considerably since it had begun. When they’d been caught in it, Fay had laughed. He’d continued to laugh as they ran for it, splashing in the puddles that had already formed.

Once they reached home, Kurogane had already begun to strip off his wet layers before realizing he was alone. Fay still stood on the porch, head upturned, blond hair sticking to his face. His breath puffed out in little white clouds and his clothes were dripping. He was smiling, eyes closed and relaxed. Kurogane reached through the door and yanked him inside, shutting the door as soon as Fay was through.

Fay sighed and opened his eyes. “It sounds beautiful.”

“The rain?” Kurogane walked away, getting two towels from the next room.

“Rain? Rain sounds beautiful.” Fay poked his head into the room with an inquisitive look on his face.

Kurogane nodded. “Yes, you said it right. And it does sound beautiful.” He was still teaching Fay the language here, and Fay was still teaching him the simple pleasures of anywhere. He threw one towel over his shoulder and placed the other over Fay’s grinning face, rubbing his hair until it was no longer dripping. Then he took his hands away and removed what was left of his own clothing. Fay did the same, shivering as he put away the sodden clothes. Kurogane looked at his shivering form, his flushed cheeks and shook his head. “You stood out in it too long.”

“But we never had rain in Celes. We only had-” He paused.

“Snow.”

“Snow. Then we only had a little bit of rain in a couple of other places when we traveled.” He stood at the window, the towel forgotten in his hands. “I’m not tired of hearing it. Or feeling it.” Kurogane could see gooseflesh start to appear on Fay’s pale skin. He sighed a little and removed the towel from Fay’s hands, put it away with his own. He took the blanket from their bed and put it around Fay after dropping a kiss on one naked shoulder.

“At least keep this on.”

As he made tea in the kitchen, he glanced out the window. The rain was falling much harder, and the clouds were dark and threatening. He was just carrying the tray in to Fay when lightning flashed close by and the accompanying thunder practically shook the walls of their home. Fay was up against the window, the blanket puddled around his feet. Kurogane sighed. He set the tray down and moved over to Fay, picked up the blanket. He pulled the blond away from the window and sat down, pulling Fay down to sit between his legs. He pulled the blanket over them and leaned forward, his chin resting lightly on Fay’s shoulder. He gave him a squeeze before reaching out for a mug of tea.

“What was that?”  Fay exclaimed, turning his head to look at Kurogane.

“Hmmm?”

“That big light. And that…” The lightning hit again, and Fay’s eyes widened a little when the thunder sounded soon after. “That.”

“The light is lightning. The noise is thunder.”

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why is there lightning? And thunder? What are they?”

Kurogane looked at Fay in surprise, and Fay looked back with perfectly honest puzzlement.

“You’ve never seen a thunderstorm before.”

“Thunderstorm.”

“Yes. Sometimes when it rains hard like this, we get lightning hitting the ground from the clouds. And that makes the noise, thunder.” Kurogane wondered if he’d have to go into a more detailed explanation, which he didn’t feel particularly qualified for, but Fay snuggled up against his chest and looked back out at the rain with a pleased expression on his face.

“Thunderstorm. I like it.”

“Mmmm.” Kurogane handed Fay his own mug of tea. He could feel Fay’s body starting to warm up. “You would. Just promise me you won’t go standing around in one. If the lightning is close, it can get dangerous.”

“Dangerous?”

“Not safe.”  Safe was one of the first words Kurogane had taught Fay the meaning of.

“Ah. Dangerous. Alright.” He let his head lean against Kurogane’s. Damp blond hair fell into red eyes.

“Oi. Your hair’s still wet.”

“Sorry.” Fay moved, sipped some tea. Kurogane held his own with his left hand, held Fay against him with his right. They drank their tea and listened to the rain fall, to the thunder crash.

The tea was finished and Fay’s hair was dry before the blond broke the peaceful silence. He whispered so softly Kurogane almost missed it. He was curled around Fay, holding tight and eyes closed. “Kuro-sama…do you have” -a slight pause- “snow here?” Kurogane felt Fay’s hands grip his a little tighter.

“Yes. It snows here. Does that bother you?”

Fay tilted his head and let it fall against Kurogane’s again, who didn’t say a word this time, simply breathed in its scent. “I don’t really know.”

They were both quiet, listening to the last crashes of thunder off in the distance.

“It might be different here. With you.”

Kurogane kissed the back of Fay’s neck. “When it snows, I’ll build you a fire. We’ll have tea and read all the books we can find.”

Fay smiled. “That sounds nice.” He sighed appreciatively as Kurogane’s hands slid slowly down his sides. He watched the rain slow to a near-stop outside the window. “If, when it snows, I…” he faltered, only recovering when Kurogane’s hands slid around his belly to hold him tight. “If I’m not myself, sometimes, when it snows…”

“Of course.” Kurogane’s legs squeezed him, held him in place. “Idiot. Of course I’ll understand.”

Fay pushed back, snuggling even closer. He smiled. “You’ll understand, but you won’t let me...” he searched for the word, “close myself away, will you.”

“Never.” Burning hot kisses began to fall on Fay’s neck. Fay reached up with one hand and put it against the back of Kurogane’s head, pushing it into short black hair.

fay, kurogane
