I've been at work nearly an hour and a half now, and all I've managed to do (aside from arranging and rearranging the things on my desk) is spend way more money than intended on my little brother, whose 17th birthday is tomorrow and has every expectation of a bevy of presents under the tree on the 25th with his name on them ( Read more... )

christmas, holidays, shopping

I haven't done my holiday shopping yet... I guess I'll have to buy everything the last day, as always xD Good thing is we give our present in January (the Three wise men and all that), so I still have some time.

I know what I'm buying for my sister and I think we have an idea for our mum but for my dad... No clue at all :/ I hope my mum can think of something, because I really don't know what to get him this year.

:)

i've actually never read about gifting in January! must google, but i'm glad you still have some time. ;D i usually dig going shopping at the mall (at the last minute) to get into the ~holiday spirit~ but this year i might end up ordering everything online ...

what are you getting your mom?

I believe it's something we only do here, in Spain. Google it, Three wise men (6th January). Now people give their presents both days, Christmas day and in January, but it can be really expensive (at least for me LOL)

We're buying her fav perfume and maybe some clothing (she saw a wonderful dress the other day and I think she's in love). Also, I'm getting a pretty photo album and I'll include a lot of family pictures.

i was thinking of getting my mom more of her favorite perfume as well! but i'm conflicted ... i kind of always fall back on it and would like to do something new, but then i know she loves it so ...

the photo album idea sounds lovely :D

I haven't bought a thing yet. *FAIL*

Dads never want anything, do they? I always ask and he never knows, so I usually just get him a gift card to eddie bauer or something. XP

LOL, not fail. i am generally a December 23rd/24th shopper, so idk where this early(ish) shopping has come from. my brother's bday is tomorrow, and i think ordering stuff from urban outfitters kind of opened the floodgates. ;D

and they DONT. omfg, please, dads, throw us a bone. i cannot bear to buy yet another barnes and noble giftcard, lol.

Still have yet to do ANY holiday shopping. Very much failing in that part of life. Shopping for fathers is always the worst imo (June might be my least favorite month because of that -- father's day, parents' anniversary, AND my dad's birthday x_x), and I usually end up buying him a nice shirt for work or a tie. Might make a nice change from the slippers? LOL.

omg your june <333 *pets* at least my father~ stuff is spaced out; my dad's birthday is Veterans Day, and this year i copped out and cooked him a nice brunch instead, lol.

a nice shirt & tie is a good idea, but since he's a pediatrician i'm always afraid to get him anything to wear to work. it might succumb to like ... baby vomit or something. :/

are you done with the semester yet?

Well, the tie could always be for non-job-related activities. Like, uh, galas. <--ignore me

Sadly I am not (as evidenced by my possible slow descent into insanity). Classes end Wednesday, and then exams start on Friday. :-\ I'm hoping to be on the road by Sunday, but it all depends on my papers. This time next week, however, I should definitely be finished. =)

Rearranging your desk is a perfectly valid way to spend your morning. *nods* And I am jealous of your brother for being able to convince people he still deserves gifts--my birthday is 3 days after Christmas, and I always firmly believed as a child that I got shafted.

...No shopping yet. I fail.

awwwwwww, december 28th? i think it's probably more difficult to fall between christmas and new year's than pre-christmas. my mom and dad are always super conscientious about celebrating his birthday, and we're going to a fantastical restaurant in his honor, so i might as well give him a present. ;D

Yeah, it was more annoying because no one was ever around on my birthday--all off with family and such. But it is good that your parents are aware of the December Birthday Curse, that definitely goes a long way to easing the sting. ;)
