First Latin Class of the year

Sep 30, 2006 23:31

It may have been late, but it had taken Arachne quite some time to move back into her room from where she had been living the past several months (wherever that might be). It might have gone better, but she also wasn't feeling that great, after a break-up with Kaiba and sending her cousin back to a boarding school across seas ( Read more... )

Elphaba sat stiff as a board in her seat, watching the teacher. What a bitch.

When the test arrives, she skimmed over it. This didn't look like much of a problem. She knew the words; she had kept her studies up over the summer and through the Professor's absence. She took up her pen and got to work. Hopefully she would get the grade she deserved, but she reminded herself it was unlikely.

Taking a quick glance around the room, Elphaba noticed quite a few students struggling. Well, not her problem. She started in on the exam.

New to the school as well as the class, Vanya had absolutely no idea what the test was about. Latin wasn't given at her other school, only at the Sunday school for the religious texts. And she had refused to go to Sunday school for years now. All she knew were some words from the few spells she had learned.

The Seer looked up at the teacher and a small, all-knowing 'heh' escaped her throat. The teacher felt bitchy and decided to punish the students for that. Alright. If she wanted that, Vanya would play along.

She returned her attention to the paper again and began to fill in the answers in Norwegian. If she didn't understand the test, she'd make sure the teacher wouldn't understand the answers. Not that she wrote anything sensible to begin with, but that was beside the point.

Vanya finished the test in a record time. She shoved the paper to the corner of her table and turned her head towards the window. The outside world was far more interesting than the teacher anyway.

Upon realizing a student was done (and so quickly!) Arachne went over to collect the test. She flipped it over, and started at it for a moment. It took a moment for her to realize that the test was in Norwegian, which was a language she only had a very, very vague grasp on.

"Bonus marks for creativity," Arachne said, her voice dry.

Vanya turned slowly her head away from the window when she realized the teacher had spoken to her. She looked at the test before her eyes went up to Arachne.

"Great," she replied, her voice just as dry. "That means I might even have a chance of passing the test."

Nana leaned back in her chair, irritated. Man, she'd had enough of bitches back in high school in Japan.

"Excuse me, ma'am, but I don't know any Latin. I'm new, and it was a last-minute decision to attend this school." Her words were polite, but her tone was somewhat less so, her irritation apparent. Great. With her luck, she'd get kicked out of this school, too.

Arachne gave the girl a Look. "Well then, it looks like you're going to fail."

Nana rolled her eyes almost subconsciously. "Great."

She picked up her pencil and looked over the test. She understood very little of it, but scratched in the answers to the little bit she could understand, and guessed on a few others, leaving the rest blank, and pushed the test to the corner of her desk.

Raven was a little surprised to see Arachne return as their professor, but the expression on her face did nothing to show this fact outwardly. Instead of complaining to the teacher or muttering to herself like so many of the other students, she simply picked up her pencil and began filling out the test.

What I learned in this class last semester, the dark witch thought to herself. The exam was difficult, and though Raven recalled most of the correct answers she often paused to think. The main thing that I learned was that this professor isn't nearly as incompetent as he likes to let on... Deciding that wouldn't be an acceptable answer no matter how true it may be, her pencil scratched different answers onto paper in the foreign language.
