What? Can't YOU see them? They're everywhere. They're wearing white helmets, and they have sad clown faces, and white gloves, which they are keeping clean even though they're working. They're everywhere. You must be able to see them.
They recently spent an inordinate length of time redoing the "Plain" roundabout and Magdalen Bridge in Oxford, which I think they have now finished. (At one point there was a big WTF moment as they marked part of it up for two-way traffic by painting a dotted line and some arrows on it, and a big mini-roundabout where St Clements joins on, but fortunately that was only a temporary arrangement and they have erased it again now.)
Anyway, a couple of weeks after the work started, big yellow signs appeared which stated "We are repairing these worn out roads for you". Within a few days, someone had scrawled "Thanx very much" at the bottom of one of them.
The Rochdale/Royston/Kingsway/Queensway junction works have been going for something like 6 months now. Until it's done, it's a roundabout (extended round some shops and a funny shape) and the straightthroughs are closed. Traffic flows so well they may never bother opening the straights, I think.
I do hope the new business park keeps the old name for its access road: Betty Nuppy's Lane Redolent! Not sure what of, but hey.
