Do not get a percolator. They do bad things to to the coffee.

Pretty much any drip maker will work, but I've always thought the coffee was better from the ones with the cone shaped filters than the basket style ones. Use the throw away paper filters. The foil ones just build up rancid coffee oils unless you clean them regularly which is a pain. Otherwise, get one of the right capacity and looks good to you.

I like press pot, but those are a little less automatic.

I LOVE my Melitta Fast Brew. Definitely lives up to it's name. Uses #4 filters, I buy the unbleached ones. Has a permanent filter, but it's easier to throw away the paper one than to try to clean the permanent one and have coffee grounds everywhere. Sorry, don't remember what I paid for it, but I'm Scottish, so it couldn't have been too much. (Although it was bought under the influence of Jeremy, who is a coffee addict!)

I love my new to me coffee maker(garage sale for $1) that has a carafe that it brews directly into and is programmable. It is awesome to wake up in the morning and have coffee waiting for you.

your best bet is a Mr Coffee automatic drip pot. It'll run you around $25-$30, with the permanent gold filter at another $10-$15. It's a good basic coffee pot, and you should be able to find one at Target.
