I live in a liberal oasis. It's wonderful. Melanie and I can hold hands in the grocery store, address each other as "honey" on the bike path, give each other pecks on the cheek in restaurants, and nobody bats an eye. It's so easy to let the paranoia get you. While some level of caution is the natural defense, too much can get overwhelming. I'm sure there are safe places for you and your partner to be at.

There are plenty of safe places, especially in the community we're currently living in. I know that most people aren't like that-- at least, they're not as extreme as the people I described above. It's just when I'm reminded that people like that exist, it stuns me. Particularly because living where I do, I run into so few of them most of the time.

I suppose that I'm more accustomed to it since I live in the Midwest (Missouri, to be more accurate). We run across quite a few bigots both within and outside of the LGBT community. Fortunate for me that I'm able to blend in, I guess. I'd hate to see how rabid these people were if they knew who they were ranting at. LOL
