A realization.

I have been thinking about this for a time, and right now I have a pounding headache and I'm feeling pissed off at culture, so the time is right to condense my thoughts.

It is not my obligation to adhere to the prevailing cultural standards of female beauty so that other people will feel aesthetic pleasure upon looking at me.

what became an essay )

sexism, culture, gender, feminism

In short: my body doesn't need to be supported, constrained, covered, repaired, smoothed, enhanced, or otherwise modified so that other people can enjoy looking at me.

Hell yeah!

The aesthetic things I do? I do for me. (Leg shaving? I dig it. Pubic hair manicuring? Not so much. I'm a fan of trimming and then leaving it be.)

I also dig super groomed eyebrows on me. Really frames my face nicely. I dig makeup but really eww to most lipstick. I'm not a fan of eyeliner unless I'm really in the mood for it. I LOVE mascara. If I do nothing else I put on mascara and lip balm.

And I get what you mean about the bras. I LIKE bras and like the girls "in place". I definitely do NOT like extra padding at all.

I bet your skirt is awesome. (I like to wear either bigger black "boy shorts" over tights with short skirts or under summery things, my BLOOMERS! Yes... black eyelet trimmed cotton lolita undies. So breezy when it's very very hot and when it's breezy I like very floaty dresses. (HELLO upskirts without them.) *And then I can climb and stand on bleachers and just run/skip and let the wind of the lake blow.)

My skirt is wonderful. ♥ It's asymmetric, grey with thin black stripes going every which way, and it does awesome swishy things right above my knees.

Dude, you found BLOOMERS? Where does one get those? I get a kick out of fun underwear even if I'm the only one who sees it. When Victoria's Secret put neon pink and yellow zebra-print on their website, I actually clapped my hands in glee. And then I bought some, along with royal blue, and lime green, and bright purple. Colors, wheee!

Lolita shopping sites FTW. :)

http://www.englishcharm.com has them.

I bought mine custom in black pure cotton batiste from:
http://www.bloomers4u.com

Mine are short hipster bloomers and I LOVE THEM. (They make excellent "sexy times" pjs too. I don't "do that stuff". I love cute tanks/camis with cotton pj bottoms for that kind of thing. I look RIDICULOUS in lingerie. The CLOSEST I come to it is pairing a black bra with said black boy shorts. I used to do colors... but I was younger and now I can't be arsed.)
