as always, this is brilliant. i have a lot of rather incoherent feelings about it, in fact.

This seems to be the effect that this random part has. It wasn't on any plan for this mini series and it demanded to be written - I've never been so glad that I gave in to my muse and made the edits.

Absolutely beautifully done. And the sentin=ment expressed is one that so many of us need to remember. WE CAN'T CHANGE THE WORLD OVERNIGHT. We probably can't change the opinions of most middle aged + adults. We CAN let one person, one YOUNG person, who has the ability to influence the future, understand that Love is Love.

Being that I am one of those middle aged moms, I am ahead of the curve, but my daughter and I are carrying it forward to her school and her classmates. Try and touch ONE person's life today.

As for me "Straight but not narrow"

I've always believed in the "one person at a time" approach. That one person then goes out and makes their own changes and so your effect is out there in a different way, another way.

Long may people change the world for the better, one day at a time.

Thank you for a very beautifully written, moving chapter that addresses alot of what Glee and this fandom is really about. Opening yourself to joy, and acceptance. And that love is about a person, not a gender. The whole section where Darren is talking to Molly feels 100% genuine. This is exactly how he is. He is such an open, caring, loving person. And I honestly believe that Glee/Darren/Chris etcetera and the fan community are changing people's opinions, one person at a time. I was raised in an extremely conservative home similar to Molly's situation. As I got out into the world and started meeting people, my views changed. And I now feel like Darren, it doesn't matter if you're gay, straight, purple, or dinosaur. Things are changing. People's opinions are changing. Slowly, but it's happening. And one day, people will be able to love the person they want to regardless of who that person is. And I hope it happens in my lifetime. If not in mine, then in Molly's. And sadly, Chris was right to worry. The world is a scary place and there ( ... )

I think I will just 'hide' under Mardie's comment. As i have mentioned to Jen before, earlier chapters have affected me more than this one, but it still need to be read/ dealt with because for our fictional boys, CC and LGBT youth the message of acceptance needs to be heard and learned.

Thank you so much! This wasn't on the original plan but I realised pretty quickly that I needed to address the other side of the coin. There's so much anger and hatred and negativity out there but I wanted to do it in a way that wasn't going to be horrific for them.

Chris is right - there's plenty of people out there who would hurt them - but I needed a positive message out there. So balancing Chris' outright terror at what could have happened with Darren's faith.

Prejudice is quite often just ignorance and what we need more than anything is education and patience. For every person like Molly there's a chance for a better future for everyone.

I'm tearing up and, simultaneously, speechless. Maybe someday I can reread this chapter and come up with the appropriate words that express my appreciation, but, until then, I sincerely hope I remember this lesson and these words for a very long time.

this is... interesting. i gotta say, i was really worried for darren when he went out to wait on her. i'm glad chris yelled at him proper. at the same time though, darren's such a kind person he'd totally do that. but i'm glad it worked out well, that they got one person to see sense and that they could help her. the drawng she sent sounds lovely, i hope they frame it and put it up somewhere. i also like that it was chris who linked her up with the designer. nice chapter!

One of my betas pointed out that there needed to be some consequence to Darren's stupid plan. (Seriously, what is it with me writing Darren as being someone who comes up with the most foolish but well meaning of ideas?!) I didn't want Chris to be seriously angry with him though, just scared at what could have happened.

Thank you for commenting. :-)
