Do you know Chris? Do you know me? The person you are fleshing Chris out to be is so real (probably so very canon). He keeps trying to see the cup as half full while his brain yells "Half empty! Half empty!" and its so loud, louder than the quiet love in his heart that he gives in and hears it, then believes it then hurts.

Kudos to Darren. I think he is quickly learning to understand his (fragile) boyfriend (no flaming for my choice of words please). He is learning to ask and reassure and comfort. And I know (from experience) that Chris will come to believe and trust in his heart.

They still have a way to go with the whole trust and forgiveness thing but they will get there. They want to and they're learning how to handle the other; Darren asks and Chris doesn't assume and it'll be fine.

Eventually!

This may be short, but it's still powerful. I find it refreshing that your boys still have to be careful with each other, that just because they're talking and made certain commitments, it doesn't automatically mean it's all rainbows. Chris still has doubts and insecurities, Darren still has to actively overcome his tendecy to assume. In my mind, this just makes it more real. Life is all about conflict and resolution, otherwise we don't grow. I'm enjoying how they are growing together, slowly, sometimes painfully, but still growing.

They will get there, it'll just take some time and patience on both parts. But as you said, they're growing together and long term it'll serve them well.

There you go again boys, never ASSUME anything. You make an ass of you and me. TALK!!! Geez both of them need to open their damn mouths and talk to each other before getting all upset. Hopefully they will get better at that going forward!

They will, it's just about time and effort and working together. They're still finding their feet, they're still picking around old wounds. But it's just time and they will have plenty of that.
