My apologies for not posting earlier in this series to tell you how much i'm enjoying this story. Your characterization of the various players is real - unlike too many fanfic authors, you haven't simply appropriated the names and situation and grafted them on unrecognizable players. Your interactions between the characters are true to who they are (or at least used to be - ignoring most of the dead loss of Season 4) as depicted in the show. Best of all, your post-Always world isn't all sweetness and light. The bad guys are still out there; Beckett and Espo are still not-cops; Ryan and Espo have a ways to go to repair their relationship; and Beckett, by *finally* having sex with Castle is still in-control, type A Beckett, not some sappy Stepford Castle-groupie. Brava

I'm so sorry not to respond to this sooner. I really appreciate your thoughtful review and I'm so glad that you think the characters are true to the show. It's my first real ensemble piece and it's been fun writing everyone, but a challenge as well.

I do appreciate this comment:
However to Ryan and his remark “I’m not sure, but we’ve known for a while that this case had connections within the department. I can’t help thinking it’s still going on” i would say - Yah think? Shouldn't this have crossed your mind before?

You're totally right and your comment gave me an idea about how to tweak that line to better get across what I was trying to say.

The whole fic reads and feels like an actual episode.

Love the bit about them playing poker for "favors".
