I told him he was wasting his time. The other wardens wouldn't agree to it. [Crane's leaving out the Eames part, just in case. He thinks it's a very, very long shot.]

He's eager to work in the lab under any conditions. He didn't ask what the maths were for or if he could work without you. My guess is he's trying to gain trust or there's an ulterior motive present; perhaps both. Either way, I intend to keep an eye on him but I also trust him to do the work, to do it well, and to get along well enough to get the work done.

I'm not asking him to like you so long as he does what you need.
