thoughts about writing

I've been thinking and thinking about POV with the novel because I'm about to break one of my pretty firm rules, which is that I find first person narratives are usually used as a short cut to intimacy with the reader. What about The Lovely Bones? I'll confess that I haven't read it in years so I can't be sure, but upon reading "as a first person point of view, where the narrator is merely a reporter because she's dead and watching events unfold from Hades", it immediately popped into my head.

Either way, it sounds very interesting. There's something to be said for that kind of POV.

Yeah, I thought of that book too, but I hate that book so I didn't want to use it as an example. But that's exactly the technique I mean in some ways.

The first one that comes to mind is The Book Thief (Markus Zusak) because the narrator is, in fact, Death. But the story is about a living person. Death has a few encounters with her, but remains narrator for the most part. If you haven't read it, I HIGHLY recommend it as long as you brace yourself for some emotional upheaval.

Haha, my first thought was also The Lovely Bones, but I also disliked that one.

The Book Thief and The Virgin Suicides might also be possibilities?
