YAY

I had an idea in the shower this morning about the novel and about the narrative structure that is a bit of a wild departure from what I was doing. A voice popped into my head this morning and I realized it was Medusa, narrating the novel from Hades. I'm so excited about this I am practically vibrating. It solves so many problems and I don't know ( Read more... )

First person can really work well, though, so give it a try.

I'm so excited for you!

Word meters don't scare me! ;)

Maybe you can do a mix of first person and third? Depends on how the story is structured, of course, but I'm doing that for my big bang story and it's working surprisingly well. (First person present in future scenes, 3rd person past in flashbacks--which are not so much flashbacks as they are various people telling parts of a story. The worst thing about it is that it's really hard to switch back and forth sometimes! I'm really enjoying it, though.)

The last draft I wrote was three different thirdperson POVs, but several agents told me I would never sell that novel because it was too slow in terms of pacing. I solved that problem by moving up the start of the novel to the middle, but that ruined my structure. I think I want to write this whole thing as first person, who occasionally disappears into the story and is merely narrating what unfolds. I never would have chosen a first person narrative if the voice hadn't come to me and it didn't make so much sense for the story. :D

Is your bigbangfic H5O?

Of course! LOL

It's actually a H50/Castle crossover. Lots of fun, I'm enjoying the heck out of writing it. :D

Oooo!!! I love how that sounds. The ms's I've written have all been first
person, so I am a little partial.

That's great news! Congratulations! Yeah, first person narrative is challenging, but when it's well-done it's mesmerizing (thinking of Where the Red Fern Grows as an example off the top of my head). I hope the rewrites go well for you.
