I've been in a funk for weeks about my writing, because I felt like I forgot how. Or something broke. I have no idea, but I've been producing weird stilted prose and I've felt like I couldn't get the right perspective to write. It's like there is a specific place you need to stand distance wise from the story--almost like those little arrows you

Yes. That's how you paint or draw too. Having the right creative distance is so key and I've never thought about it in terms of writing, but it makes a lot of sense.
