LJ Idol Season 8, Week 30, Closer

I walk through a crowd and I am jostled about as I get too close to other people, or as they don’t see me and walk into me. They shout out hurried apologies, or rush passed saying nothing. I am easily over stimulated and try to hold my breath. I attempt to find a way out of the crowd, a quiet corner, or a wall to stand near ( Read more... )

This was an excellent piece of writing. I have often wondered what it felt like on the other end of my spectrum - I am the most huggy person on the planet and reading this was so interesting. You write beautifully. Allie.

I'm glad you liked it. That's funny that we are opposites in this regard.

It's not even just Asperger's - I don't like being touched by people I don't know, either!

Here's a blog about intimacy with Asperger's that you might like reading - http://blog.penelopetrunk.com/2010/11/18/what-its-like-to-have-sex-with-someone-with-aspergers/?utm_source=sidebar

It doesn't matter if I know someone or not which is unfortunate.

I'll have to check out the blog link, thank you.

*non-touching air hugs* I'm not nearly as comfortable with hugs offline as online, so I can sympathize a little. I do like hugging my family, but I try to avoid hugs from more distant relatives or strangers.

I'm not a very touchy-feely person. Though I realize there's probably a vast difference between not being touchy-feely and Asperger's, I can relate to some of this. Sometimes I just do not want to be touched at all, no matter how close you are to me. Sometimes this includes my husband.

I love your descriptions of the unwanted hug.

This is an important perspective. You should consider sharing it somewhere more people can see it. People don't think about their automatic customs unless someone points them out.

Thanks. I have considered a more public blog, but I have decided against that idea for now.
