Having had a lot of animals, and lost a few in sad ways, we know how raw you feel, in fact for one dog, Mindy, a Jack Russell I think we felt worse than we did about a human death. Sorry you lost your special mate.
I am now off on a reverie of cats we had; one white stray I took on as mine, used to wait at the bus stop for me to come home from the nursing home, crossing a main road to do so. Think cat stories might be next, have enough to fill a small book, like you and your dogs. But sad for you, hugsx
