A sock puppet is a fake account either just made to troll/spam someone or made by another user to be their 'fake' friend. You never want to friend a sock puppet account because they could spam you or cause trouble to your account since you don't know who they are and what their agenda is. Almost like the suspicious accounts on tumblr, sock puppets are what we call them on LJ.
