My television watching was pared down since I worked odd shifts and then I went back to uni, so the only thing I've been watching on release is Doctor Who and then Dad was recording Castle for me (which the UK is months behind the US for *sigh*), but now that I'm back at home I've found myself watching everyone else's shows, jumping in at the middle. So I'd only seen the last Christmas special of Downton Abbey, but then I saw Sunday's and the family have been catching me up. I like!

It's great, isn't it?! I completely missed the first season hoopla here, but happened to be staying with my cousin (a big fan) when the second series started, and I was hooked from the first moment. It's just such great entertainment! If you ever feel the need to chat about Downton developments, you know where to find me :)

On another note...what do you think of Doctor Who so far this year? I quite liked the first episode, but generally I've found this season to be, well, underwhelming so far. Just me? I want so much to love it like I used to, I am very open to being convinced of virtues I may have overlooked!

It sucked me in! I watched the very first episode when season one first came out, but then I had weird work shifts, blah and etc, and I never got into it. Various family members kept updating me on it and I caught the Christmas special, but I seem to get much more easily hooked into shows when I'm living at home. I think I'm a communal television watcher or something, heh. We haven't watched the last epsiode yet - Dad's away for work, so we're waiting for him to get back :)

I liked the first episode a lot, even though it had some faults. The rest, not so much. It's okay, but it just seems...lacking. Not enough fun dialogue, not as...I dunno, just not as good as the rest of New Who :S I'm wondering if it's the writing - I'm a huge Moffat fan, but he wrote the first episode and not the others. And I loved Neil Gaiman's episode. Next saturday, with the Angels in Manhatten, looks promising, so fingers crossed!

There really is something lovely about sharing shows with people isn't there? I think that's ultimately why we're all here too... or at least why I am! :D

I know what you mean about the lacking. I feel like I can't quite put my finger on why, but as you say, yes, just not as good as I've come to expect from New Who. And it makes me so sad because I'm also a huge fan of Moffat, who has written some of my most favourite Doctor Who eps ever (forget Doctor Who, I think 'Blink' is one of my favourite ever episodes of television ever, ditto 'The Doctor's Wife', actually, so I'm VERY excited about the prospect of Neil Gaiman returning too) but... I don't know... his showrunner era has, for me, been rather hit and miss. And that pains me so much to say.

Last year, I feel like they sort of painted themselves into a corner, and I just wasn't satisfied with the 'resolution' and even (unpopular opinion alert) Amy is kinda annoying me. I didn't really see that coming.

Sigh. So... I'm hanging in there, because I just KNOW Moffat/show can come ( ... )

I haven't caught up to Sunday's episode yet, but I did catch the premiere and can I just say how much I love your squeee?

(also Michelle Dockery looks like an angel in white and I nearly cried when she asked Carson whether she'd 'do'. That shot of her going down the stairs was pure perfection in every way, I'm not quite sure if I haven't actually died from it)

And also, there was THIS:

I haven't caught up yet either - RL is kicking my ass.

But THAT SCENE!!! OMGINORITE?!?!? HOLY HELL!!!!! FASTER THAN A SPILLED DRINK ABOUT COVERS IT!!!!!!

**SWOON**

In Mary's defence, that one time she DIDN'T show steel-like self-control didn't work out real well for her, bless. Maybe she just wanted to be sure Matthew didn't also end up dead. :S Also she'd hate to be predictable. :)

Oh these two and the feels they give me.

I'm so glad you approve of the squee... I feel there may be more in my near future....

Also? ETA - thankyou so much for posting that gif. I'll just sit here and stare at it for a bit longer.....

lol this is too true :) Poor bb, that whole episode had me feeling so much sympathy for her (and so much stankeye to Edith for being an absolute bitch and trying to RUIN HER SISTER'S LIFE, I mean she and her old man are cute in their dorky way but S1 Edith was awful)

and I need to thank the person who posted that gif on pntd, which is where I ganked it from :)

I know?!? S1 Edith is massively evil. I mean, I know you don't like her much Edith, but seriously. Talk about a completely disproportional response! I've liked her more as the seasons have gone on, post-her kissing the farmer.... hmm... But also??

...

I just caught up. ... Dude. You gotta let me know when you're up to date. Oh em gee. That is all.

I honestly thought they weren't going to top Edith's jilting-at-the-altar, at least not so soon. (though I really liked the way that was acted - if Old Man won't have her, she shouldn't have to plead with him. Though she looked amazing in her wedding dress, that glorious ginger marcel bob is perfection and it's nice to get to see Edith dressed less frumpy too)

And I can't believe the most I noticed about Sybil until this episode was that she had the worst hair out of all the sisters this season (really wasn't into her+Branson), and then she had to go and die because Robert is an egoistical fool pulling his 'master of the house' crap....the last fifteen minutes of the episode just destroyed me. (and OMGGG CORA!!!!!!!!! The look on her face, I'd be hating Robert pretty hard too right now) Every time I thought 'ok, less sad now', someone would look devastated, and then it would be all

OK! CrackFicOfDoom Chapter 1 is posted and I am back with Downton Abbey feels!!!!!!

[If anyone else is reading this comment thread... if you haven't seen Downton Abbey's S03E05... stop now. Really - run, don't walk in the opposite direction. Now.]

OMG I know!! Edith! Poor Edith - I just like her more and more actually, she is increasingly interesting. She was so unbelievably hideous in the first season, I guess they had to, but I think the war really changed her, and she doesn't know who she should be and where she fits in the world and what she can contribute and I just.... my heart. And she loved that man, and I just.... I can't believe he did that to her. You're right, she should NOT have had to beg, but I just... oh Edith. Darling one ( ... )
