Okay. Sequence of events basically went as follows:

Windows Vista is a piece of freaking shit and was blue-screening left and right and I couldn't figure out why, so I put Ubuntu on my computer as a second OS. Was shiny. And fast. And easy to use, more or less. Win.
I kept Windows around, just in case, until a few weeks ago when it downloaded some ( Read more... )

Ouch, brutal. I guess that explains the phone call. Sorry to hear it all. :( Will send mail asap -- can't get it out tonight due to not having disc here at work, sorry.

Alright, I got it yesterday. That was very speedy, thank you! I will install as soon as I have time to make sure it goes right. Thank you so much for the help/advice.

A good Linux alternative to WebEx is Yugma. Linux can be flaky with audio issues, especially microphones. Not all sound cards are created equal in the Linux world. My laptop has a built-in Intel card, and it's a pain in the butt to get the microphone working at times. You could try searching for Linux sound card drivers directly from the manufacturer.
