“Gin.”
Parker placed the cards down on the floor in front of Buffy, chin resting on his hand and looking a little dejected. Buffy laid her cards down as well, glancing up at him as she gathered the cards together to shuffle them out again. They were sitting at the planetarium, waiting for them to start being let in for the laser light show. The laser light show that Parker and Seeley were supposed to have been going to together, until Seeley needed to fly out to Tallahassee for a case.
“That is the most under enthused ‘Gin’ I have ever seen.” She tipped her head to the side and gave him a small smile. “What’s wrong, kiddo? Upset that your dad can’t be here?”
“This always happens. We have plans to do something cool, and then he has to go do his stupid job.”
She sighed softly, starting to deal out another hand of Gin to him as she matched his position. “Yeah, but that stupid job keeps you safe. That’s a good thing, right?”
“Yeah, I guess,” he sighed. “I just wish he’d stop promising to do things with me when he’s just going to ditch me for his job.”
“Hey.” She placed a chin under his hand so that he was looking at her. “I have it on very good authority, that your dad kicks himself really, really hard every time he misses out on time with you.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. You’re the most important thing in the world to him. And he told me that if I didn’t show you the most epic time in his absence? That he totally wasn’t going to kiss me for a week.”
Parker made a face at that. She knew he was still weirded out by the whole kissing thing, but he got that it meant something to Seeley and Buffy. “Really?”
“Really, really,” she nodded. “So think we can turn that frown upside down? At least for a little while, anyway.”
“Okay.” He flashed her a grin. “I’m totally gonna kick your butt this round.”
“I would like to see you try.”
