Title: Looking for a Back Door
Author:
iluvroadrunner6Rating: PG-13
Characters: Alec Hardison/Chloe Sullivan, Lois Lane
xoverland Challenge: Temple of Janus
Content Warning: N/A
Summary: So when Hardison said that he knew a reporter in Metropolis who could help them out as they tried to take down LuthorCorp, he hadn’t expected a) not finding her at the Daily Planet, b) getting beaned by a wayward stapler from her cousin, and c) hearing that she had gotten fired by the man they were in fact, trying to take down.
Author’s Note: Just as
smokeandsong posted about how she wished that Smallville crossovers used people other than Chloe … I post a Chloe crossover. I find that ironic. Anyway, my personal challenge for the two most recent
xoverland challenges: No Supernatural Crossovers. We’ll see how long it lasts. And Chloe for this is set around the end of Season 7, because that’s where I am in canon.
Disclaimer: I don’t own. They belong to the CW and TNT. I’m just borrowing and will put everything back where I found it.
So when Hardison said that he knew a reporter in Metropolis who could help them out as they tried to take down LuthorCorp, he hadn’t expected a) not finding her at the Daily Planet, b) getting beaned by a wayward stapler from her cousin, and c) hearing that she had gotten fired by the man they were in fact, trying to take down.
“I think you might have hit me a little too hard with that stapler, because I could have sworn you just said Chloe got fired.”
“Yup,” Lois replied as she handed him an ice pack. “And for some reason, Lex kept me on. Little hinky when I’m the girl who’s been trying to take him down from Day One.”
He placed the ice pack on the decent sized egg forming on his head, and sighed. “Keep your friends close, enemies closer?”
“Keeping me close is not going to stop me from investigating. This girl doesn’t back down easy.”
“Yeah, you never have.” Hardison sighed as he slumped on one of the desks. “Where’s Chloe now?”
“Working at the Isis Foundation.”
“The group for the meteor infected?”
“That’s the one. A friend of ours runs it, but she fell into some kind of coma. Chloe’s taking over running it for her until she gets better.”
“Where is that again?”
Lois rambled off the address, but he could feel the suspicion bleeding off her as he plugged that address into his phone. “Why? What are you looking to get her into? I swear, Hardison, if you get my cousin in trouble-”
“Really, Lois? Really? I’m in town five minutes, and you’re already accusing me of breaking the law?”
“Hardison. The last time we saw you, you bolted out of town because you hacked the NSA and Chloe nearly got arrested for it.”
“Lo. I swear on my entire comic collection, I am not here to get your cousin into trouble. I’ve gotten much better at hacking since then.” He flashed her a grin and she rolled her eyes.
“Point stands. You get her arrested, I kick your ass-got it?”
Hardison nodded for a minute, before sliding an arm around her shoulders and starting to walk her towards the door. “Lois, next time I see you, remind me to introduce you to a friend of mine-”

“Alec!” Chloe’s face lit up when she saw him, making her way closer to wrap her arms around him. “It’s been a long time.”
“Longer than long,” he said as he returned the hug with a smile. “How you been?”
“I’ve been good. How did you find-” She trailed off and her eyes widened as her fingers wandered up to the egg on Hardison’s head. “-what happened to your head?!”
“Lois,” he replied. “Stapler. It’s actually a pretty funny story, but reporting your cousin’s abuse of me is not why I’m here.”
“It never is,” she grinned, before turning and heading further into the office of the Isis Foundation. “What can I do for you?”
“Alright, check it-I’m working for these people now. We help people through not-so-legal means, and we take the real bad guys down.”
“So what bad guy are you looking for in Metropolis?”
Hardison took a breath. “LutherCorp.”
Chloe’s eyes went wide a bit, and she moved to sit on the edge of the conference table. “LutherCorp? Hardison, you gotta be careful. Lex is a powerful man and with his father dead, there’s no one keeping him in check.”
“That’s why we’re here. We were approached by someone who lost a loved one to something called Thirty-Three-Point-One. But we can’t find any outside evidence that it ever existed. We had to come to town to see if we can get it out of LuthorCorp, and I was going to tip you off with the story of a lifetime, only I get here to find there’s nothing regarding the project on any of the LuthorCorp servers, and you got fired from the Daily Planet.”
“By the guy you’re trying to take down, actually,” Chloe sighed, drumming her fingers against the table for a moment. Hardison could tell when the wheels in that head were turning so he just waited for the tell tale signs, watching as her head tipped to the side and she looked up at him with a grin. “I think I might have a way to help you out with that.”
“Oh, I do love that look in your eye,” he said with a grin as he followed her into the back area of the office. He watched as she pressed a button on the remote and a hidden panel on the wall parted, revealing a very high tech looking computer system. “I think I’ve died and gone to hacker heaven.”
“The woman who runs the Isis Foundation has a bit of a beef with Lex. She did a lot of not-so-kosher things in order to get some information but I think I might be able to track down what you’re looking for on Thirty-Three-Point-One.” She slid onto the stool and as her fingers hit the keyboard, Hardison couldn’t help but grin as he spoke into his earpiece.
“Nate? I think I’ve found our back door.”
