This wasn’t what had come to mind when she walked in the door. In fact, she had fully planned on causing some physical harm, and while she had, it wasn’t exactly in the way she had anticipated. Instead of shooting, stabbing or smacking, her nails were digging into his back as he slammed her against the wall and she was kissing him, keeping him close and wondering how long it had been since she had last done this.
But she didn’t do this. She didn’t. And when she did, it was certainly not like this.
True, she talked a big talk, but when it came down to actually doing the deed, she usually got cold feet. It was one of those things she needed to be eased into, she needed a chance to think, to process, and realize what was happening. But this was all happening so fast, so quickly, that she didn’t understand what was happening. All she knew was that she was caught up in the buzz of his body pressed against her, and before she knew what she was doing, clothes were falling to the ground and she was still tearing into him with everything she had, but it wasn’t so much to cause him pain as it was to get to where she wanted to be faster than she had before.
This wasn’t like the first time they had done this. The first time she had been seduced. It was slow, lazy and friendly. Affectionate. This time around, it was rough and animalistic. It was the polar opposite, and she didn’t know what to expect or how to react, so she just gave whatever he was giving right back, trying to match him move for move where experience and age left her at a disadvantage.
When she had arrived at his hotel room, she was seething. When she had reluctantly told him about her deal, she wasn’t looking for him to go and talk to Bobby, and she certainly didn’t want him to tell her about her situation. She had never looked for pity from anyone. Help, yes, but never pity. And as the argument escalated, tempers flared, and suddenly he had her up against her wall and she was gone. She was angry, she was pissed the fuck off, but the haze of the moment was getting to her and she was too far gone to care.
When the haze finally cleared and they were lying in bed together, the doubts started to sneak back in again. She shouldn’t have done this. She never should have come here in the first place. She’d let her emotions get the better of her, yet again, and she couldn’t keep doing this to herself. She just didn’t have the time.
She pushed his arm off her and started to get herself dressed, needing to get out of there as soon as possible. She couldn’t keep doing this to herself, getting attached to something and getting herself hurt. She wasn’t like him-Adam had centuries to look forward to. She had months, and she couldn’t just start something again when she knew she didn’t have the long term to look forward to it. She needed to stop this dance with Adam before she got in worse than she already was.
“Bela.”
She froze with her hand on the doorknob, not wanting to turn around to face him quite yet. She bit her lip, and her eyes fell down to the ground, looking for the answer that was resting on the tip of her tongue but she couldn’t find the words to say. She just bit her lip slightly, before turning the door knob and making her way out.
“I can’t.”
