“Hello? Have we met?”

Lindsay was so busy seething, she almost didn’t hear what was said. As far as she was concerned, having Danny in charge in New York while Mac was elsewhere?

Really. Bad. Idea.

Because when Danny was in charge, and a CSI was needed somewhere other than the five boroughs, Sofia sure as hell wasn’t going, which left it up to her and Hawkes. And since Hawkes was currently tied up in a case, Lindsay was the lucky one who got to take a trip to Miami. In the middle of the summer. Bastard.

“You’ll be fine, Montana. Not like you’re going to melt.”

If she survived this, Danny was going to get an earful when she got back. Not that he’d care, because he’d probably be too worried about trying to fix however the hell he had screwed things up with Sofia this time around.

It wasn’t the Miami CSIs that she had a problem with, or even Miami itself, really. It was the weather. The heat and humidity were not something she was fond of. It made her sweat, and her hair frizzy and her feel extremely unattractive. Not that she felt she was usually that attractive to begin with, but at least she didn’t feel like a total mess. She hated feeling this way. She hated sweat, she hated Miami, and she wanted to go home. She hadn’t even seen Maka yet. She had taken a cab to the scene straight from the airport, not wanting to see anyone she knew until she calmed down some. But right now, she had to deal with the guy behind her.

“No, you don’t-” she started to snap as she turned around, but then stopped. She faltered slightly, before giving the handsome, dark haired man behing her a smile. “Lindsay Monroe. I’m the CSI from New York.”

“Ryan Wolfe,” he said, returning the smile, and offering her his hand.

“Nice to meet you,” she nodded.

“Wasn’t aware that this case was cross-jurisdictional,” he commented as he moved in to help her process.

“MO sounded like a guy we encountered back in New York. We thought we had caught him, but we wanted to cover our bases.”

“Make sure it wasn’t a copy cat,” Ryan nodded. “Horatio OK’d this?”

“Lieutenant Caine was the one who called us,” Lindsay replied. “He knows Mac, so-”

Ryan nodded, before walking over to the other side of the room. Lindsay watched him go for a minute, before shaking her head and snapping pictures of the room. “Someone get you caught up?” he asked.

“Yeah-Maka sent me the case file and I read it on the plane down.”

She noticed him hesitating for a second, an uncomfortable look on his face. “Right. She used to work in New York.”

“We only worked together for a year,” Lindsay replied. Ryan’s face brightened slightly.

“So you’re not that close?”

Lindsay shook her head, “Only really knew each other professionally.”

“Good,” Ryan grinned. “Really good.”

Lindsay frowned slightly, confused, “Can I ask why?”

Ryan shrugged, “No reason.”

Lindsay watched him for a minute, before shaking her head. “OK.”

Maka and Delko slipped under the crime scene tape, and she gave Lindsay a smile. “Good to see you, Monroe.”

“You too, Maka,” she smiled back. “Hey, Delko.”

“Monroe,” he nodded, before heading over to start processing the scene.

Maka gave Lindsay a look before moving closer and whispering to her. “You’re in a better mood from when I talked to you on the phone.”

Lindsay shrugged slightly, “Things have started-looking up.”

Maka’s frown deepened, and then her eyes fell on Ryan, “Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no.”

“Something wrong?” Lindsay asked, giving Maka a look.

“Stay away from Wolfe. Trust me, he’s a pain in the ass.”

Lindsay looked slightly disappointed, “Really?”

“Yeah,” Maka nodded, and Lindsay turned back to look at Ryan for a minute. Then she shrugged.

“I can deal with pain in the ass.”

Lindsay wandered to another part of the scene and Maka shook her head. “This so isn’t going to end well.”
