[The video starts at an odd angle, displaying half of a great hall, partially overgrown with greenery, but a lot of it has been cut back. As the PORTAL keeps recording, sounds of someone talking become clearer, and Merlin walks into view. He's talking to himself, loudly, and the volume only increases to the point of shouting as he crosses the large ( Read more... )

And look at he who speaks to nothing as if he were half-mad.

[Her voice is dry. Fuck you, bro.]

What is so different between memories and spirits? Nothing at heart, for they both tread the same pathways through our sad corporeal worlds...

[Tra-la-la-la-la.]

[He ignores her first comment. His reputation as sorcerer and madman is a carefully crafted thing, but he knows when and how to use it. He doesn't feel the need to argue with her to prove his sanity or not.]

Memories exist in the minds of those that remember them. Spirits are nothing but ill-directed hopes or delusions.

Memories live and breathe all around us, some of them misdirected and delusional, while not all spirits are lost. There would be no spirits without memories, and if they are born as such, then memory must hold their essence.

[Her gaze is uneven, she rarely seems to focus those dark eyes of hers.]

Shall I come meet your spirits?

[It doesn't matter what his answer is. She'll find her way there, one way or another.]

[He'd found her to go on far too much when he'd first spoken to her, but now he's already been fallen into an irritable mood, and really doesn't feel like humouring her in the slightest.]

No. There are no spirits, and I've no mind left for your babbling.

Look after her. [ She means Arry.

She pauses, then, looking at the man's surroundings before speaking again. ] If you're looking to renovate, I could help.

I can only try. She seems quite determined to do it herself.

[He'd tried to persuade her to use the room the city had given her, but she'd refused. He's hoping Camelot will have more appeal.]

The king was in the process of rebuilding, but I would say it stands well enough as it is. For now. If it turns out the rooms deeper in are needed, I'll have to rethink that.

I know. She let me patch up some of her scrapes, but she's... very independent.

[ So is she, if it means Arry will stop living on the streets. ]

Well, I'm available. I'm an architecture student -- not quite as good as an actual architect on paper, but I do have work experience, so...

Orphans often have to be.

[Something to be respected, as long as it didn't fall into bull-headed obstinacy.]

I'm afraid you'll have to tell me what an architect is. The word is unfamiliar to me.

A place, from my world. You'll be safe here.

What kind of place?

A fortress, used as the capital for our king.

[Because he is a wingéd, scaley, nosy douchebag he must comment.]

Would that be another palace then?

[If there is a throne and a talk of a king then it must be but he would rather not assume as he would be a rather gargantuan ass then.]

[He hesitates, for a moment, because that's a dragon. A real dragon, talking to him. But he disguises it easily as simply a thoughtful pause, then laughs, spreading a hand out to indicate the hall behind him.]

Does it look like a palace to you? No, no... Camelot is a fortress, though it was our capital.

[Well he at least grants that wizards cannot be as stupid as the other 99% of humans. It's a step.]

Palaces can have very varying appearances from kingdom to kingdom even within the same world - some ornate and some merely just a place for a ruler to hold court.

A fortress in a city of dreams that goes through patterns of strife, I am certain you have made yourself a popular man for any seeking a safe place.

I wouldn't know, the palace here is the first I've seen.

[And from what he's read about them, he really does associate them with ornate, fancy buildings. Rulers that didn't need to fight to keep their thrones, or if they did, did it on far off battlefields.]

Perhaps, though in a city of dreams, I cannot predict how safe it would truly be.

[ Oh. He might be able to relate a little with a place of solace bringing "bad" memories, if his real place of solace is any indication. ]

Is that a castle?

A fortress. Used as a castle, it could be said.
