Impossible, perhaps, but here we are.

[She makes a rather exasperated face, but that isn't Sephiroth's fault. It's all Kelly Bridge's fault.]

Land's End is run by a newcomer, like ourselves. There are a few others who run shops, if that is what they occupied themselves with before coming here.

[Land's End had delicious seafood. Delicious enough that that dastardly Kelly Bridge had used it to lure her back into the city. The bastard.]

With no industry and no currency, it leaves us all idle. But I would be happy to give you directions to the libraries. They've vast, and varied.

...I suppose if you are a military man... You could join the local guard, they're needed from time to time...

I doubt I'd be suited to running a shop, but I'll consider patronizing this restaurant. [Though he allows himself a small smile at the notion of serving as a shopkeeper.]

I would very much prefer to remain active in some capacity, and I would also appreciate those directions.

[He considers the guard idea, but he is dubious.] Military man I may be, but I would have to know for certain that those I served were worthy of my loyalty. I will not follow any authority blindly. [If these words are pointed, they would be lost on anyone not already familiar with Sephiroth.]

I have seen the recruiters, they wish you to take some kind of oath... bound in magic.

[Anna did not particularly like the way it sounded, and she owed her allegiance to no one. She would protect anyone who needed it, there was nothing more there.]

[A magic oath? He doesn't like that idea at all.]

I will take no oath unless I fully understand and approve of the aims and methods of those I am pledging my service to. I will serve only those who lead with honor.

[It comes as something of a relief, saying that. He might like to say it at home. He is weary of working for people who he now thinks may be little more than unconscionable murderers. Not that he's sure what to think, after what happened. He needs to learn more. He doesn't have enough information to make an educated decision yet.]

I must find another way to occupy my time.

[She nods quietly. She agrees about that oath, in some ways.]

There are some who have been here nearly a year, perhaps they will have a better idea of how to get by in the city.

A year? People remain here for so long? [That does give him pause.] I will ask these individuals, then.

I'm not used to being idle. I've been studying the situation, and I'm sure that will keep me occupied for some time, but it is not the same. [Previously, he would have been most eager to return home, to his men, but, surprising himself, he doesn't care as much as he thought he would.]

The days will continue on, whether we are occupied or not.

That is the same at home. Days continue regardless. I'd rather fill them with meaningful activity--as meaningful as activity can be here.

I hope you will find something you deem meaningful, then.
