Back from the grave to tell you jesus doesn't always save

[The sky is getting dark, night is coming soon for Promenade. The sun is heavy and blood red on the horizon in the last hours of daylight, turning the ocean scarlet in its final light. Everything is red, the sand on the beach, the buildings, the roads...

the island that, no less than an hour ago, wasn't there.

Its not very big. Just a spit of land ( Read more... )

Dagda.

[Just a quiet sound out of her; he looks like the sunken face of a Dullahan only - thankfully - without the rot and putrified skin.]

You look like you need a good meal and a pint. Probably a bloody wash and all.

[Wash and bloody were bad words to say to a man in a grave. Her mind gives her the image of a bean nighe washing grave clothes that she has to shake away.]

[He bends to retrieve the PORTAL from the grave dirt at his feet. Touching just the right spot on the orb is simple, almost like muscle memory. When he talks, his voice is harsh and dry. Like a man that hasn't spoken in months.]

Hey...Shirley, right?

I think could go for that...yeah.

[She would ask what happened because she doesn't have the full consideration for the feelings of others but when death is involved, she's rather more mannerly about things of that nature.]

Where on earth are you? Can you even get out?

[Standing and talking are very different to heaving oneself up and out of a grave.]

[The answer to that, dear Shirley, is a very long and complex thing. It might be right up your alley, honestly. Tonnes of ghosts, demons, angels, and faerie queens.]

I dunno. Can't see anything. Lemme try to...

[Harry, in his weakened, exhausted state, tries to clamor up the side of the grave. For a moment, it looks like he might make some progress, but a shaky hand crumbles through the soft, loose dirt and he loses his footing and BAM! Down on his ass in the grave again.]

...bad idea. [He's winded just from that little scramble.]

[ Having been spending a good chunk of time on the island they dared to call her 'place of solace', and she had grown use to seeing the other island inhabited by the fellow seer-slash-cranky-asshole-dragon and usually only that. Nothing new had popped up in the ocean recently so when the island suddenly appearing the young magic user was more than intrigued.

So she decided to investigate, as any sane, logical thirteen year old girl would do, and flew on over to the new island. She armed herself with her needlewands, exploring around a bit and half tempted to dismantle the already disheveled lighthouse just to see what may have been inside...or underneath. Alas, the familiar voice stopped her.

She made her way over to the grave, peering down at Harry with an uplifted brow and an otherwise straight face. ]

Again? Is finding yourself in a shallow grave a normal occurrence for you?

[Looking up at the voice, Harry blinks at her form against the last of the daylight. He manages a grin, but its loose and tired and his voice is like gravel grinding together.]

It was a necessity.

Dare I ask why or shall I just offer a hand up and leave the questions for later?

Its a long story, full of boring things like ghosts, demons, angels, the great cosmic battle between good and evil.

[But he's offering up his hand. He's not too proud to accept help.]

Is this..normal for you, mr. Dresden?

[The view of the beach and the water in general is making him more nervous than the fact that Harry just rose from his own grave.]

This place was home sweet home for a few days.

The grave. Kinda happens when you're a ghost.

Or were.

I'm not sure I understand what just happened. [Mostly because he had no idea that Harry was supposedly dead in the first place.] Are you alright, Harry?

...Define 'alright'. Im better than dead, worse than a car crash victim.

Harry, what happened?

Its a ridiculously long and horrifying story.

The dead can come here. Seems like a waste.

The dead firmly reject that notion, good sir.

Dead are supposed to go to heaven or hell.

Yeah, well, not for a lack of this place trying to be both at once.
