When I got my first apartment, I somehow had a Sears catalog. They used to sell the following Language translator device for like 2 or 3 hundred dollars:
People have often told me I shouldn't name things because it'll make me more attached to them (they don't understand that I'll grow attached regardless) and that that will make it harder on me if it breaks/malfunctions. I think what you shared about Fran really captures the overlooked aspect that when you're more attached to things you can forgive them such flaws, or even find them endearing. Yes, eventually sometimes things don't function at all, and it is hard to give them up, but I don't regret being attached.
Well anyone can find a foreign Language dictionary who works flawlessly. I love Fran because she's special :-)
By the way, is that your umbrella in the picture (as opposed to a stock photo)? I think you may have been the person who posted about them a while ago(?). In any event that is a nice one...
