San had been in CONTROL long enough to hone his sense of knowing when he was being followed. And it had been pretty good beforehand. He walked along the street, slowing his pace just a bit, reaching into his pocket for a pair of sunglasses to put on
( ... )
He was different, in a good way considering the mess she had left behind, but she was different too. She'd done too much fighting in the last two years to have herself have gotten soft. She was holding herself more like the Ruby he first met, before she got sent to Hell the second time around, and before she found herself caring for him more than she should have. Safe to say she wasn't making the same mistake twice.
"Hi, Sam," she said dryly. "Nice to see you too."
She really doubted that he was going to kill her. He was probably soft when it came to his powers, and she had her knife. Besides, he was in a better place than he was then. And he owed her -- she didn't kill him, after all.
Sam's powers were almost non-existent. He hadn't used them since he had killed Lilith, which made for his head to not hurt at all without the whiskey now.
But he had new skills which she wouldn't know about, so he was far from soft. He was still a demon hunter, after all.
He took a sip of his coffee, keeping himself relaxed so he could move easily at a moment's notice.
"Wish I could say the same. What do you want, Ruby?"
Demon hunter or not -- Ruby was still the demon in the equation. And she knew Sam's body well. She'd take him out again if she needed to, new tricks or not. She didn't want to, because she knew Dean wouldn't like it, but she would.
"I need something from you," she said evenly, starting to move closer to him. She was older, she was faster, and this wasn't really a fight Sam could win.
