[J1W] Trapped

This was suicide and she knew it. Every survival instinct she has was screaming for her to go the other way, but she wouldn’t. Couldn’t. Alloces had Dean-Alloces having anyone was never a good sign, but in this particular instance it was one of the worst. She needed to get Dean and get out before whoever wanted him alive showed up to finish the job. Ruby had ideas, none of them good, and none of them that she wanted to bring to Sam’s attention. There were some angry, angry Fallen out there, and now that Vassago was out of the picture for a while, any member of the Council could be holding Alloces’ leash. Either way, she was at least grateful for the part where the demon wanted Dean alive, so Ruby still had a bit of time to bail him out before that demon killed him, the rest of his little family, and unleashed Sam’s unholy hell on the world.

Which she knew was the plan from the get-go, but she wasn’t going to get into that now.

Dean was against the far wall of the room, his hands tied to the arms of the chair he was sitting in. His eyes almost lit up as he saw her and she was worried that that would start the fight before she could even be prepared to start, but Alloces didn’t turn to face her. He definitely knew she was there, though. There was no mistaking the way his shoulders straightened. The demon was a lot of things, but he was always ready for a fight. Always. Her fingers went to the hilt of the knife on her hip, and she swung it up into her hand, ready to go as soon as someone decided to pull the trigger.

“Kinky,” she sighed, hoping she sounded more confident than she felt. If she was going to get herself killed, she might as well do it with as much smartass as possible. And then there was the off chance she could win-keep Alloces from getting to Sam, Alec and Ben. And if she could do that? All the smartass would be worth it. “What is it with Fallen and tying things up?”

The demon’s shoulders rolled as he made turned to face her, his body starting to move in a slow prowl, like he was about to start circling her. Ruby met his eyes, moving with him as she watched him, trying to remind herself how he fought, how he sparred-where he balanced his weight and where his power came from. It had been centuries-more than she’d cared to count since she spent some of it in Hell-but there were still the old familiar ticks and tells, lodged somewhere in the back of her mind. She watched as his eyes dropped to her knife, and then met her eyes again.

“A knife, Ruby? You think that tiny little thing will really have that kind of an effect on me?”

The look in his eyes was amusement with a bit of a challenge. Ruby knew he probably hadn’t been properly challenged since he got out of the little box they had shoved him in, and he was due for a good stretch. He was looking at her expecting a certain level of fight, and she hoped to God that she could give it to him.

“If I managed to stick it in the right place, it just might.”

She could feel Dean watching them, a mixture of worry and interest on his face, and she couldn’t help but think he was right to be interested. This would be an interesting fight to say the least. Alloces wasn’t going to be forced to hold back, and when that guy really let loose? It was beautiful. Horrifying and incredibly destructive as well, but still beautiful. The demon’s head dropped back and forth to the side slightly, loosening the muscles with a bit of a crack before speaking at her with a smirk again. Their circling had slowly started moving them closer together and Ruby’s eyes never left his, meeting his gaze in what she hoped was an intimidating fashion.

“Been a long time, beautiful. Miss me at all?”

“That’s a bit of a loaded question,” Ruby smirked. “Did I miss the compliments? Sure thing. Did I miss cleaning up after your messes?” She paused, wrinkling her nose slightly before shaking her head. “Not so much.”

That got her a grin, almost animalistic in nature, as he continued to circle her. “Had to be better than being the mess, though.” He paused for a moment, before lashing out, reaching for her wrist and snapping her around to face him, holding the wrist with the knife in the air. “You don’t need this, Ruby.”

“I beg to differ,” she stated thinly, biting back the wince of pain as his fingers tightened around her wrist, pressing down on the nerves and causing her fingers to release, hearing the knife clatter to the ground. “C’mon Alloces,” she said as he went, her teeth gritting through the pain, feeling the bones in her wrist start to shift and grind against each other from the pressure. “You know I’m outclassed here. I’m just your generic run-of-the-mill human stock.”

“But you’re still a demon,” Alloces replied, letting her go as his other fist came up and caught her across the face, sending her stumbling towards the ground. “And I fucking trained you. I’ve seen the rage in your eyes. I know what you’re capable of, blondie. Now show me I’m right.”

Ruby picked herself up and met his eyes, and there was a brief flash in them before she lunged for him starting to throw punches as best she could, and she managed to get a few good hits off before he took her to the ground. It was a hand to the neck, and there was so much force she was surprised the back of her meat suit didn’t snap. She blinked up at him, dazed for a moment as he pushed himself up and backed away from her, licking his lips to clear a spot of blood from the corner of his mouth. “That wasn’t bad. Get up.”

Ruby blinked for a moment, watching him as he moved to pick up her knife, but didn’t aim to use it on her, instead just slipping it behind his back and into his belt. “Why aren’t you-” she frowned, and he rolled his eyes.

“You aren’t done yet. Get up.”

She did as she was told, having flashbacks of when he was teaching her to fight, where to throw her weight and how to balance a power she didn’t understand. She’d been a baby demon then, picked up by a Fallen because there was something about her that Amy found bright and shiny, and he had terrified her then. Still did. But there was something much more final about this, and he wasn’t going to just run her until she was spent, he was going to run her until she was dead, and if she wanted for that to not happen, she needed to find a way to get the upper hand.

She hung back this time, moving with him, waiting for him to swing, and when he did, she took the defensive rather than the offensive. She was tired, and she was more beat up than he was. It would be easier to just block the blows this time around until she could get back on her feet again, but she wasn’t quite fast enough in order to make that work. One fist slipped and caught her in the ribs, and she could feel the crunch of bone under the force of the blow. She gasped in pain, her knees buckling slightly, and he used her moment of weakness to take her down, again, her back hitting the ground, the pain radiating through her like she’d been hit with a wrecking ball. She let her body collapse against the ground, trying to catch her breath, feeling the body weaken with each hit she took.

“Get up.”

She coughed, blood sputtering up into her mouth, and she shook her head. “I can’t.”

Alloces’ eyes narrowed, and he turned back to her, anger and disappointment in his voice. “Get up.” Ruby didn’t respond, just closed her eyes and tried to conserve energy, before Alloces spoke up again. “Phoenix will kill him, Ruby. She plans to chop off his head and drag his soul back to Hell. Do you really want that to happen?”

“No.”

“Well?”

“I said, no.” That was a shout, anger flashing up at him, but she could barely will her body to move. There was too much damage done, too much hurt. Alloces moved closer, crouching down next to her and looking her dead in the eye.

“Then get. Up. Now.” He paused for a moment, before looking over at the sword in the corner. “Or I could just finish the job with Dean myself. Who knows when Phoenix will be back? Maybe I just want to get her show on the road.”

Ruby growled at that, kicking the stronger leg out, moving to swipe him off his feet and throw him on his back. Then she scrambled herself back into her feet again, and the fight resumed, her hitting him with everything she had, and him dishing it back just as hard, if not harder. Eventually it came to the point where he had her by the neck before he swung her around, sending her flying into the far wall of the barn. She felt the sickening snap of the body’s spinal cord and she knew she was done. Her body slumped down against the wall, and she just watched him with defeated eyes.

“Get up.”

“I can’t.” This time the tone wasn’t weak, or searching for pity. It was a statement of fact, and Alloces was perceptive enough to hear the difference. He smirked at her, before slipping a hand behind his back for her knife, sliding it into position the same way she had earlier.

“You put up a good fight, Ruby. You shouldn’t be ashamed of that fact.”

“No. No! Hey!” Dean was starting to struggle against the ropes holding him in place again. “Hey! Ruby, get the hell out of here!”

Ruby knew what Dean meant, but she didn’t acknowledge it. She didn’t even know why he was bothering to tell her to get out of there. Maybe because she just wanted to do it himself, or maybe it was because he actually cared-shocker-but she didn’t listen either way. She knew that Alloces would call her a coward for that one, and Ruby wasn’t a coward. Trapped, maybe, but she was never a coward. She just met Alloces’ eyes with the same face she’d been looking at him with the whole time, still cool and calm as his hand landed on her shoulder, and he raised the knife above her head, ready to send it straight down into her heart for the kill blow, and Ruby closed her eyes, trying to wonder what it was going to be like to die for a demon, to just disappear into oblivion and never be seen again-

-when Alloces paused for too long.

He was waiting, and she wasn’t sure why, and there was a whoosh! of movement over her head and the thunk! of her knife hitting the wooden wall of the barn, but it was-far away. Almost as though he had thrown it.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” Alloces’ voice was cold and very, very annoyed, and Ruby only knew of one demon that could drag that kind of response out of a Fallen. She suddenly knew that Dean was very, very screwed, as she opened her eyes to only confirm the inevitable, her eyes narrowing in disdain at the demon across the room.

Lilith.
