Why am I always passed for a makeover?

Okay, let's talk about makeovers. Here's the thing. I wonder what it would take for me to be picked for a makeover. Why is it only pretty girls, and I do mean girls, not...um...mature...um...ordinary women who get to be made-over? Are they actually models shabbified for the program? Is the whole thing scripted? Is it all a lie? Is nothing sacred ( Read more... )

I want a do-over too!
I enjoyed reading this because you write with such humor about something that just drives me a bit crazy. It really is always the young, already pretty people that get the make-overs! There needs to be someone going around trying to do make-overs on older people, and on people who really need them. I would get in line for that. : )

I once saw this spoof-y teen flick where all it took to change a geeky, outcast schoolgirl is to remove her glasses, undo her ponytail and let her hair hang loose, then change her baggy plaid shirt and jeans with a low-cut dress. If only it were that easy for me. :)

Yeah, in movies it's all so easy. If only...

Oh, profy. Those programmes are usually staged, yanno. They pick some people (and yes, usually the good looking ones so it's easy on the eyes of the viewer), explain to them that they are going to appear on this programme and they have to do this and that. I've been to several TV show taping and it's always like that.

Maybe spend some time so we can talk about this whole do-over thing? I can tell you one thing or two to save your complexion? *dipukul*

Staged, eh? I knew it! I guess if they saw me when they're looking for makeover candidate they'd just shake their head and said, "Nah. Hopeless."

Please tell me you have some tips up your sleeve about reducing the monstrous gaping pores on my cheeks, the acne blemish and mottled nose. :)

Heyyyyyyyyy, don't be too hard on yourself. It's the inside that matters ( I know, cliche twice over but it's TRUE )

And this : with contrasting layers and loose sheets falling in graceful folds down their front I think I'd be spending at least half an hour to get that done in any semblance of order when I need to be fast, fast, fast in the mornings!

Where were the makeovers held? Was it recorded for a TV show? Then they probably had picked the girls out beforehand, and they were probably preexisting clients of the fashion designer!

The thing is, Lin, they made it look really easy with the layerings and fastenings and all sorts of knots and dangling accessories. Like I said, very inspiring.

The makeover candidates were supposedly picked at random on the street then brought to a boutique for the makeup and outfit overhaul. tonomurajiro said such programs are usually staged. I felt really cheated.

Really? I always thought it's the easiest thing to figure out. It's basically just like wearing a bandanna, only you let out the corners down the front instead of knotting it in the back.

To give you an idea of how Indonesian women, the younger ones at least, wear hijab, check out juliasayz channel on youtube. She gives instructions on how to wear hijab. It's in Bahasa Indonesia, but the video is clear enough an instruction, I suppose.

I suppose the risk is that people don't want to watch women of a certain age ...

*sigh* I think this is true.

Good support underwear! I need some of those too, damn gravity.

I just browsed through "How to Look Good Naked". Fascinating! Here it seems when a woman hits a certain age they consign themselves to loose muu muu style clothings and head covering, with some embroidery and bead work to spice things up. I know I'm coming really late to this whole I-want-a-makeover thing. But for some reasons the thought of ending up like anyone else makes me shudder.
