Long time no see. If you are wondering why I've been absent for so long, it was because I moved house and, most importantly, because I was finishing my MA thesis. (I'm graduating this Thursday, I'm relieved to say.)

These icons were made on a new screen and with the first icons, the Game of Thrones ones, I was still very much getting used to it. ( Read more... )

But holy crap #38. AMAZING. The hair is just. Wow. And I love the radiant reds.

Also I adore all your wide shots, fyi. 34! 36! 14! 8! They look so pretty. It's like: woo hoo scenery! Only freaking better because your coloring is awesome on those wider shots.

Thank you! It was for a challenge where we were given the base, so the hair has nothing to do with me. But I agree: I love how it's flying around.

I'm glad you like the wide shots, because they are obviously my favourites (I think everyone who knows me only slightly knows my love for negative space.) Random thought: Considering how much I love iconing scenery, it's a bit ridiculous how bad I am at it when they aren't movie shots but stock photos. :s

I already told you how much I loved the DW and HP icons :) #38 is so stunning! I love the shape of the hair and all the warm colours.

These are gorgeous! Your text use is really fantastic, especially 3 and 16. I love the crop on 26 and the lighting on 32 and 36. The colouring on 29 is so pretty and wow, 35 is so stunning, bright and clear. Just perfect. 37 is fabulous because you really captured the emotion of the scene and I can't decide if I like 41 or 42 better! Such beautiful colours.

Hee, thank you so much for all the incredibly kind words. A lot of these were if not experiments, then still attempts at trying new things, so it means a lot that you like the batch. :) I feel like the Secret Icon Battle really pushed me.

Your colouring in this whole batch is AMAZING. I love the brightness and how you brought out very vibrant shades in all of them. LOVELY. :D

Thanks so much! That means a lot, because switching monitors was terrible and for a few, admittedly dramatic, days, I was convinced I'd never produce a decently coloured icon again. :)

Switching monitors is hell. No one should make icons until at least a few months after changing them. It should be a RULE.

Great text work, Janie! It works marvelously in 3 and 7, and I just love 7 overall, really. Amazing yellow that isn't oversaturated, and the neg space is gorgeous.

That last Ron icon is pretty cool, too! It's something newer and louder from you!

Thanks so much, Kim! I'm always insecure about using text, so that's great to hear. I actually have a big soft spot for 7 myself, because it's everything I wanted to bring out of that scene and what the character is/will be about and... I'll stop, but I clearly have ~feelings.

I'm still not quite sure what to think of that Ron icon. I made it for a House Pride challenge over at hpotterelite and it was, like you said, completely new for me. It got almost no votes, but I'm still strangely fond of it. :)
