This is such a fantastic tutorial. Your thought process is amazing. I'm glad being made a "trial" maker (blasphemy) pushed you to make something so incredible and so out of your box as well.
And it is amazing how you did so much with so little in regards to this icon. I think that makes it more impressive, to be honest.
Also, I wish I understood the 'rule of thirds'. Your cropping is so lovely!
Anyway, thank you for writing this up, and I can't wait until you get to my other questions. ♥
Not being accepted sucked and at first I was a bit desperate because I had no idea what to do and the comments I received were contradictory. But I just gave it a go and the gratification of winning the first challenge was sort of all the more sweet. :P
I wish I understood the 'rule of thirds'. What it basically comes down to for me is: never put the focus of the icon on the middle line of the icon. ;)
Aw, thank you. Your words mean so much to me, they truly do. I always hope that someone gets something from the tutorials I write. It doesn't matter what it is, but if I can give someone even the tiniest thought of "Oh, that's interesting", I'm a happy camper. :)
You have such an organised thought process. And such an amazing sense of direction for your icons. AND SUCH KNOWLEDGE. Now I know what exactly auto-contrast does (Huge, huge fan of the auto tools!) rather than just using it because I like what it gives me sometimes.
I loved reading this. It shamed me and my iconing process in several ways but that in turn made me appreciate the way you make your icons even more. I'll definitely be adding this to my memories, and coming back to check it out again... and again!
