What a day!

Today I made the jerk-off coworker quit. He wasn't following up on his various tasks so my boss put me in charge of herding him & making sure things got followed up on. He was stonewalling me today & I told him to stop it and just be straight with me instead of sarcastic and he walked out. I am an unsettled combination of utterly relieved he's ( Read more... )

Sounds like you did the right thing. Sounds like he was getting away with quite a lot and when you showed him the sharp edges of the boundaries, he couldn't cope. Just because your last nerve hit the pavement, doesn't mean it wasn't the right thing.

Don't be hard on yourself. You and your company deserve to work with the best and he clearly wasn't it. Now there is room for betterment.

Oh, and hey, fucksticks are way different that working with kids. You'll be great as a teacher. Kids require patience, fucksticks require the boot up the ass which you so deftly provided. Good job!

Now get to work! ::smile::

thanks - I needed that reminder. I guess what really bothered me was that I let him piss me off. If my students get belligerent, I can't let myself get triggered like that. But I'm also hoping that I'll have a lot more compassion for a belligerent 16 year old than I will for a belligerent 30 year old. Though I'm also hoping not to have any belligerent teens in my classes...

This Foundations in Education class I'm taking this semester really has shown me how far I have to go before I'll be a teacher. It's very inspiring!
