::Tentatively pokes head up to check for hostiles::

Okay, I just finished a very worthy story that I think even dsign would like. It's by crafty wordsmith legomyarrow. She just finished it; it's 6 chapters plus an epilogue. It's a gun-slinger drama set in the old West, and the cast of characters includes Orlando, Viggo, Beanie, Karl, and even Eric makes an appearance. It's by turns funny, nailbitingly tense, ( Read more... )

Thanks for the rec... I've not seen this posted anywhere! Would have missed it completely if not for this post :)

That was definitely a good one. [nodnod] Of course, Amanda's always good. Anyone who can get me to read and enjoy WWII fic is clearly incapable of writing crap. [wry smile]

Ok, I tried (but it doesn't really work for me).

There's something about talking about the actors (as opposed to characters they play) that feels, well, weird. I know, I prolly let you down and all.

It was surprisingly elaborate and plot-driven. BTW, what does AU mean for warnings?

Ever watch French and Saunders? They typically parody some film by playing the actors in the film instead of the characters. Makes for some interesting moments.

Braveheart
It's often taken as understood, but here they actually list themselves in the credits as playing the actors.

Ah, you're one of those folks who feels weird reading RPS (Real Person Slash) as opposed to FPS (Fictional Person Slash). I started out reading FPS, reading Legolas/Aragorn adventures and so forth, but it didn't bother me to cross over into RPS. AU means Alternate Universe, so even though the character has the same name (usually) and appearance as the person you're familiar with (such as Orlando Bloom), they're just essentially an icon representing the author's fictional character with a face you know, which allows the author to do less worldbuilding and character development because certain things are inferred from knowing about their real life persona. Does that make any sense? The Orlando in the story is a gunslinger in the 1800s, for example, and that's very different from real life, so she'll flesh out details about that, but you already know what Orlando looks like and what he sounds like when he speaks, so she doesn't need to spend as much time on illustrating those things in great detail. Basically, it just allows a lot ( ... )
