The basket is returned several days later filled with two new shirts, a coat, and something metalworked and useful, obviously donated by H. No note.

She laughs, pleased. "If I'd have known socks were traditional, I'd have added some to the gifts. You are all far, far too sensible to be knights, you know that?"

"I think it's more that everyone you knew at home was too stupid to be," cheerfully.

With a quiet smile: "Thank you, brother. I'm sorry I've nothing to return; I didn't know it was so close to solstice here."

"That's all right." Kisses her cheek lightly. "You're still getting your bearings, anyway."

Mordred laughs. "Yeah. --You can come down with us, you know, if you'd rather. He's in and out."

Niko finds the gift without its giver, unwrapped, just sitting there on their (once again shared) bed. He looks at it curiously for a moment, before discovering the note; he sits down heavily on the bed, reading and re-reading those three words, and then smiles.

Presently Mordred comes in, and, seeing him, smiles a bit himself.

Niko looks up to see him in the doorway, and his smile grows. "Springtime, then?"

"Barring last-minute transformations." He comes and sits down on the bed beside him, shyly.

Having torn away the paper around the gift, Lynet makes a face, looking down at the silver comb, and says sourly, "What, do you think I'm my worthy sister, that I have time to spend on frivolous hair-styling?"

"Yes," gravely, "that's exactly what I think."

She purses her lips. "I didn't get you anything, dear brother."

"Well, of course. You were too busy primping."
